Default Any real life experience on an Epi FT neck reset?

I have a beautiful Epiphone FT-570sb, handmade, Japan 1970’s.
It needs a neck reset. I am terrified of hurting the finish. . I have done a fewneck resets, never on a Sunburst. Any great tutorials on don’t kill the finish?
Has anyone tried Heat vs Steam to loosen glue?

Hey, John! What kind of neck joint does it have? I'm curious to see if it has a butt joint like that old Tak you and I hacked to pieces.

FWIW I have a friend out in Oregon who reset the neck on his old Yamaha using a Japanese pull saw because it was a butt joint. Naturally, he also had to redo the bridge position just because.

PS: I also have an Epi that is a candidate for a neck reset, but it's one of those Texans with the electric style bolt on joints.

Are you concerned about the finish around the fretboard extension or the heel.

Steam for me is the choice of methods for releasing a neck joint and heat for releasing the fingerboard extension.
