Default Bourgeois Advanced Slope D - Limited #10 of 12 Adirondack and Brazilian Rosewood

IMG_1635.jpg

This guitar cuts through the air like a cannonball through a canyon. It’s notes are huge, round, and enveloping, like giant raindrops you can stand inside. The sustain is unreal and super focused (owing, in part, to the long scale-length and sloped shoulders). Pick a string and will shiver all night long.

The top is gorgeous. Dana did the sunburst personally to ensure it had that perfect dusk in the desert quality that fades evenly into jet black. The tiger stripe pickguard adds just the right amount of animal swagger and the visible grain in the Adirondack indicates that it was picked for raw power. The Brazilian back hosts a haunting figure that recalls the wings of a moth. It imbues the instrument with a ghostly resonance and chest-quaking bass that could silence a noisy field full of crickets. The inlay is unique and tasteful, directing the eye without dominating its attention. The bridge wings, especially, are an inspired touch.

While Dana describes this model as being well-suited for “high-octane hillbilly music,” it would thrive in any context where some extra muscle under the hood was desired. Flat-pickers will be able to beat back the banjos, and finger-stylists will enjoy the extra volume it provides will still being focused and balanced enough to carry multiple melody lines across registers. In summary, this a big, bad, dynamic instrument that will teach you how to wield both hands wisely and confidence.
