Default Really impressed by...

This guy! Don't know if it's the voice that comes out of nowhere, or the fact there isn't too many guys his age (21) writing cowboy tunes and murder ballads (check out his song Kate Mccannon). But I cant quit listening to his music the last few days. He sounds like Johnny Cash and Townes had a love child lol! Tip: he tunes his guitar an entire step down if you try to play any of his music.

I'm always the first to say that musical taste is subjective, and that there's no right or wrong...

I was kind of getting into the guitar playing, but when he started singing, I had to check my speakers, and then fast forward a few times to sample and make sure of what I was hearing..

I'll be kind and say that a little bit of that goes a long way...

And I'm a JC and TVZ fan from way back...

I hear what your saying lol...listen to some of his other songs. He eases up a little on some other tracks . I'm still enjoying his music for now.

Really starting to like this fellow. Played Saskatchewan in 1881 on my radio show Friday.

Here's another video that's done really well. It's part of an interview so I'll post the song times.

https://youtu.be/ddrO3EkQrpY

He starts with "13 silver dollars"
6:42 "Motorcycle"
12:19 "Kate Mccannon" (murder ballad)
He ends with a TVS cover of "Snake Mt. Blues" at 18:12.

Haha...I'll agree he's not for everyone but I think he's tapping into some things that are completely lost by most young musicians today. Especially what we call "popular" music these days.

Yeah, I think the opposite, I think is tapping into a new type music, bring old and new together, I'm just older and prefer stuff that make musical sense lol, I've never heard such sloppy playing before, well except at GC lol

Im not into singer/songwriter stuff but I liked it, a lot. Ive been playing fingerstyle a long time and thought the picking was very good. The guitar not so much. Maybe he meant it to blat like that but it sounded awful. However he is not the first to sing a Crossroads song.
