Default Josie Small Jumbo all strung up

I had a little delay working last week because I had pink eye and I can tell you that doesn't mix well with saw dust! So I worked the weekend to catch up and have this Josie small jumbo pretty well all set up. This is Western Red Cedar from a standing deadwood tree on Bastogne Walnut. As I expected Bastogne is the most "rosewood like" of the walnuts as it is very hard and strong on overtones. I'm very happy with the initial quality of sound I'm getting here.

Here are some finished pictures:

This is a BRW bridge with ebony pins:

White Limba has the interlocking grain pattern of mahogany and is very similar in weight, strength and workability. I consider it white mahogany:

The tree inlay is Spalted Tamarind and African Blackwood:

I'm very happy with how the color of the white Limba goes with the Bastogne Walnut:

And I think the antique gold Gotoh 510 minis with Black and White Ebony buttons ties the whole thing up just right!

Thanks for viewing!
Mark

The guitar looks fantastic Mark! Another work of art from the Hatcher shop.

The whole thing just really came out well.

The tree is really cool. This will definitely be something that remains in the family tree for a long time.

I can hardly wait to make music with it.

Thanks.

I concur with all of the above. It looks fantastic. The tree in the headstock came out just great. Love the look of all of it.

Hey Mark,
I've never had the pleasure of playing or even hearing one of your guitars in person. I will say that aesthetically, you build some very beautiful instruments.

We put together a nice guitar didn't we. I'm finding I like the 2 5/16ths saddle string spacing more and more as time goes on.

Thanks Jon! It's hard to go wrong with cedar and walnut. The Bastogne adds a nice set of overtones

Thank you RBS! I hope you get the chance to play one. I am making a commitment to start doing shows so maybe that will be a little easier.

Mark, you seem to have a knack for finding woods that compliment each other perfectly, and you've done it again with this beauty. It may be the best yet (but I think I say that about each one you show us). I'm looking forward to the day I get to play one of your creations - or at least hear one in person!

Wow Mark. Leave you alone for a month and miss a ton!

Some awesome spec guitars you have planned. That quilted Maple is beyond outrageous. Going to be very hard to keep these as spec ... going to be a bunch of offers. You never know what Hatcher will come up with. Firewood for rosettes ... unbelievable. I hope you have documentation for your BRW if you are planning trips for it across the pond. I've heard they are being very strict about that.

I am glad you have decided to offer the strap bevel standard on your cut away guitars. I love mine and can say it is a very effective feature.

Love how Dano's Josie turned out. That Bastogne is off the charts and the Zebrawood purfling is special. The tree on the headstock is awesome as well! I'm sure Dano is pleased as punch.

Sorry to hear about the pink eye! Hope it didn't keep you from the work for too long!

I remember looking through your studio thread when you posted that bastogne, pausing, and just looking at it for a few minutes. The finished guitar is exquisite!
