DI guitar amp simulators
I currently have Guitar Rig 5 but am considering upgrading to Amplitube or similar. Any thoughts on a good amount simulator?
Also, thoughts on these amp Sims versus micing your own amps? Todd

Check out Scuffham S-Gear. It's on my short list. I hear great things about it.
I've used Amplitube and it is pretty good, but I hear too much 'amp simulation' going on.

Scuffham is the only one that sounds real to me.

Thanks for that confirmation, and that is essentially what I've heard from people using it - sounds more like a real rig than anything else.

I listened to quite a few demo and shootout videos. I chose Amplitube when it went on sale late last year. I kept waiting for Guitar Rig 6 but finally decided to try something different. I don't play electric guitar a lot, but so far I am happy with Amplitube. It seems like there are a lot of good choices out there now.

After much debate, I decided to go for the Amplitube Max download. I wanted something that will also work with bass guitar. Downloading is taking a while...

Don’t overlook analog hardware amp sims, like the Tech 21 line. They are amazing and you don’t have to bring your $2000 laptop to every beer-soaked gig. I can recommend from experience with both the Liverpool Deluxe and the Blonde Deluxe.
