Default Peterson Stobe Tuners?

These puppies run $220! But I've read that they are as good as it gets.

A tool for doing set-up work, and lots of interesting tuning options including a "sweeter" standard tuning.

Anyone have or use one?

Comments?

I have had a VS-1, which I gave to my partner and now have a VS-2. I use it in my shop, studio, living room, and mounted on a mike stand live. It does everything....and probably will be the best 200- you spend in accessories. The VS-1s were replaced by the VS-2, but are readily available on ebay in the mid $100 range.

I just snagged the Strobostomp(www.strobostomp.com) and it is awesome! Peterson finally made a product geared to guitarists and it is great. It has the offsets for guitar 'sweetening', buzz feiten, and 12 strings, capo and drop tuning modes, true bypass switching, and even works as an Active DI. Highly recommended!

Yes, I have been trying to get my hands on a Peterson VS-1 or VS-2, after a tip from Bob Colosi. There usually are some on ebay, which all top out around $150, like Bob said. They are far more accurate and much faster than any regular guitar tuner, which I hardly use anymore, because after tuning with those things I still feel out of tune.
Great buy! (I think I'll just buy a new VS-2)

Thumbs up

I have a VS-1 i got this one to replace a old Peterson strobe that finally gave up. IMH, It is a absolute necessity if you are going to do set ups, and worth every penny.

Agree with previous comments. I've had my VS-1 for a few months now and am 100% satisfied with it, although I haven't taken the time to mess with some of the features yet. If I lost mine, I'd buy another one.

I snaged a VS-1 when they were being closed out, and it's money well spent!

I've been using a VS-1 for a little more than a year now - I just love it! Only word of caution is that if you do have a guitar with less than ideal intonation, it will be all the more obvious (and frustrating) to you. As far as I'm concerned, they are worth more than what they cost. Best accessory item I've ever bought.

Wow! Thanks for the replies!

Considering that I have a guitar or two that cost about as much as this tuner I wondered if someone would come on and say "waste of money" but nope.

I am amazed at how much you guys like this thing, so I'll try and find one.

And, my frustration about the Intellitouch never sounding quite right is one reason -- especially with a 12.

Thanks!

You're very welcome (as far as I'm concerned) and yes with a GSST, K14C, MC-40 EJ and an 810 you qualify for the strobe tuner!! You shouldn't have to worry too much about intonation problems (except maybe on the 810).
And with regard to our enthousiasm, this demo shows part of the reason for mine:

let me know what you think. Do you recognize this?

beside the visual demo this sound demo is quite useful too. You'll be ready to buy one after this.

My wife gave me a VS2 for Christmas (I suppose she was tired of hearing me out of tune) and it has really changed my life. While at the symphony, I saw a professional (I believe he was tuning an oboe) using one, and realized this this was not another guitar gimmick.

I have noticed now that my strings are more sympathetic to each other, the guitar sounds more dynamicly responsive. A plucked string will cause a harmonic string to vibrate because they are more closely in tune and resonate with each other.

Also, the VS2 has a larger, clearer back lit screen, better for poorer eyes or darker studios...

Regarding the cost, Peterson held a special last Christmas giving free shipping AND also included an extension with a spring gripper to attach to you headstock and eliminate background noise while tuning in noisier environments (I had seen this as an accessory on their web site.
The website really explains the science behind the art:

I agree with Randall...would definitely replace this with another VS2.

Just my $0.02

Bret

If those are REAL results, I'm placing an order!

It's a good buy for bench work IMHO, but I wouldn't put a $300 tuner on my pedalboard.

There's a bit of a learning curve - be prepared for it - but once you get the hang of it, you can't imagine doing intonations with any other tuner!
