Default SDOTD Blue mic

Just ordered one of these, Blue enCore 300 Condenser Mic on MF SDOTD, half price. I've been looking for a rugged, good sounding condenser mic for performance at a decent price and I'm hoping this fills the bill.

I bought one, actually traded for a fuzz pedal, awhile ago. The mic picks up all the bass in the universe, so hopefully you're using a PA/mixer with a good eq section. Be prepared to roll off lots of bass. Being a condenser, it will be prone to some feedback as well. Be careful with mic placement and proximity. There is a clear sweet spot. I prefer to be right on a mic, but with this one, it works best if you're backed off it just a little bit in my experience. Otherwise, a great mic. The lighted Blue emblem is especially cool. A few years ago it was the official mic for American Idol.

I bought one a the last time they were on sale for 1/2 price for vocals. I love it. Its pretty hot, that's true; incredibly responsive with the ability to capture breathiness (if that's a word).

I have owned 3 of these mics. I got the first one used, it sounded good, but it was cutting out, so I thought I got a bad one. Then later, Pitbull Audio had a two for one sale so I got two of them. And both of them picked up two many noises from phones and computers. So the store agreed to send me two more for replacement, and I also had problems with one of those mics! I don't recommend them for that reason. They also had a wide cardioid pickup pattern that was bit more prone to feedback than my regular mic (Beta 87) in close proximity to my acoustic amps and PA. So not a good experience for me!

[Pedantry alert]

This is something that comes up from time to time and can result in lots of heat but needs to be deconstructed for examination a bit.

What differentiates various mics' resistance to feedback is sensitivity across the audio spectrum and this in turn is determined by polar pattern and a mic's overall sensitivity.

It is true that many dynamic mics have a more controlled polar pattern and restricted frequency response than many condensers and I would suggest that this is what leads to the working wisdom that condensers are intrinsically more susceptible to feedback but simple logic dictates that there is nothing about the mechanics of the mic that makes this inevitable and there are many dynamic and condenser mics that do not follow this rule of thumb.

[/Pedantry]

As you were.

I also bought the Blue Encore mic on the SDOTD on April 8th. Last Saturday I chatted online with a MF representative who said these mics are shipping from their Kansas City warehouse that is closed due to the pandemic. He advised they are hoping to ship sometime early this week.

Fingers crossed.
