Haans, please excuse me for being thick, but what is with the "reverse herringbone " ?

How does it differ from regular, easily obtainable, herringbone purfling (or "stringing" as the retailers describe it) ?

I don't see the difference, but I look forward to elucidation...

I was going to ask if it was maple and ebony. I just play them though so that may be a stupid question.

Earthbender, you have it about right. Here's the difference...
Here's the regular herringbone with B/W purfling...

Here's the reverse or negative herringbone...

The reverse is made up by stripping the black off regular herringbone leaving just the center and adding the maple/black purfling. It's a pretty touchy process.

Here is the neck peghead all ready to rout the inlay. Inlay is pretty much a mandolin "Torch and wire" with the wire replaced by abalone, and a few things added, a few left out and a few re-arranged.

Default Any update on this build?

How're you feeling?

Did you get some pictures before this guitar went to its new home?

Thanks guys!
Haven't been around for a while, been healing up and getting stronger and stronger. Have been doing a lot of walking.
Still building, but have mostly retired from the rat race and let the "big boys" have at each other. Have pretty much lost interest in competing with all those guys. Prefer to compete with myself.
As to the instruments, I've got this 2nd Holzapfel into finishing and have finished the 2nd set of build coats. I'll sand it and put the final coats on, then it will sit for a month and dry. The first Holz is done and playing.
I've also been building a 6 and 12 string MJ (mini bimbos ) for a guy with the same thumb problems that I have. Those short scales are just the ticket for folks with arthritic problems...
Next in line is a GC.
I will likely post some photos of the instruments in various stages of completion at some point, but will probably post them all in one rambling, continuing post.
Thanks for asking about my health, TG

Hanns. Glad to hear your doing well and look forward to some more build threads from you. By the way my GC is wonderful and I am playing the heck out of it. It's starting to open up.
