A rare bird …16 “ koa archtop
I was very fortunate to obtain an extremely rare piece of perfectly quartersawn end to end , curly and colorful back set of koa thick enough to build an archtop out of.
I’ve been looking for something like this for many many years and incredibly lucky to stumble onto it. I also sourced a one piece koa neck from Bruce at notable Woods. Just getting ready to spray it. All the appointments are ziricote and the top is Sitka spruce. |

Love that wood. Nice job finding the Koa. I also like the stone back drop for the pictures.

Spectacular guitar Brad! The wood pick guard is a great touch, and the tuner buttons are incredible.

Absolutely stunning...
Just curious how it might have sounded with a koa top: our last band's vocalist had a killer koa Taylor GS Mini that sounded like a good 16" archtop with more sustain - bass player and I couldn't keep our hands off it during rehearsal breaks - and I've been wondering how an all-koa carved archtop would compare...

It was nothing short of a miracle that I was able to find a Bookmatched back thick enough for the instrument and finding a top as well would’ve been next to impossible. Besides , the sound with the spruce top is what I was after. Getting high quality Koa wood for flat tops is no problem. |
