A big fan of Goodall guitars, I've dithered around for about a year now about which of my Goodall's is the one I should keep (Can't afford two Goodalls). Both of them are very differently fantastic guitars, but neither one hits every spec on my list of the perfect "one" guitar for my eclectic playing style. An epiphany resolved the problem! I just ordered a new custom Goodall that will have everything on my wishlist for my 'forever guitar'. The new Goodall will be a one-guitar-fits-all-needs instrument, a compromise of cost, tone, playing characteristics, scale length etc. Alas, this means my current Goodalls must go. (Note: as I write this, my OOO Goodall has just sold through Reverb--now one to go.)

This CJ was ordered and built in March 2018 out of straight grained, AAA Cocobolo and Master Grade Redwood, with ebony bindings on body and fretboard and black lipped mother of pearl and abalone accents. KK Pure Mini pickup installed by James Goodall. It's difficult to describe how perfectly constructed and beautiful this guitar is, especially how the abalone rosette sets against the Redwood top--it is a perfect combination of native, organic materials for an instrument made on the North Coast of California. The depth and warmth of tone this guitar develops is amazing-- recording artists like Jeff Peterson and Alex DeGrassi play Goodall CJs for a reason.

I first found this guitar on a visit to the Goodall shop in Fort Bragg, CA, right after the body had been built and before it was necked or finished, and was immediately intrigued. I asked Jean Goodall to call me when it was done. Several months later I got the call, and spent several hours sitting in the middle of the shop playing a mini concert for James and Jean, and they soon called in Luke to listen as well--they don't get to hear their guitars played as much as they would like! For me, the deal was a foregone conclusion at that point. One picture here shows me with the guitar and James and Luke Goodall.

The workmanship on this instrument, as with all Goodalls, is perfect. It plays as easy and smooth as silk, the sound is awe inspiring and the materials and subtle design touches are exquisite. There is no plastic on this guitar. Nothing compares with a hand made Goodall, especially since their downsizing in 2009: All Goodall guitars are now hand made exclusively by James and Luke. The Concert Jumbo is the sweet spot in their design portfolio, and this Redwood/Cocobolo is a rare superstar. It has been played at home (fingerstyle)only, but it is as good as brand new. Original Ameritage/humidity control case included.

So what model/wood combo is your custom Goodall order? I myself am a big Goodall fan. My Redwood/Bubinga Standard keeps me happy! I do love the Redwood tops!

Thanks! Redwood is my favorite as well when it comes to a full, warm and beautiful tone...perfect for ballads. My singing partner is heartbroken that I'm selling this guitar. But I'm trying to get down to one main guitar, and we do a lot of country/bluegrassy stuff as well where a bit brighter tone works better. So for my new one I'm getting an adirondak top. Also, while I adore cocobolo, for cost reasons I'm going with straight EIR for the back and sides.
The main switch I'm making though is to a short scaled OOO. My fingers are starting to feel the years of playing and having a little less pressure to deal with helps.
