Default Finished and shipped

Hello everyone! I was able to wrap everything up last week with the MD. I'm very happy with the results especially for my first one. It has bass and plenty of it. Which is what I wanted but it's not a booming bass the balance is still there bass to treble. Very responsive and lots of sustain. Extremely pleased.

I'm looking forward to Bobby playing it. I shipped it out today. So Bobby should be getting it tomorrow.

Yesterday I was able to snap some pro pictures of the guitar. So here are some pics.

Thanks for looking and following this thread!

Color me on the "WANT" List. Wow. This looks like perfection for what I like.

Dread body fullness, with detail and balanced frequency response
Cutaway for upper register access
Armrest bevels are more than ornamentation, they are super comfortable
Quality and workmanship second to none
Ease of Playability up and down the neck
(Loved your commentary about stringing it up for a week before leveling the fingerboard and fretting.
Love the tuning peg buttons
The Rosette is a work of art
... the whole guitar looks like a masterpiece!

Is it braced and optimized for light or medium gauge strings or does that matter?

Being a modified shape, what case works best for this stunner?

That is a beautiful guitar, and beautiful execution. I think you do it a disservice calling it a dread, even a modified dread, the lines are to sweet for a dread, but I'm not a dread fan. Lol. But this I like a lot.

The luthier's use of that name is in recognition of the fact that the shape was created by ervin somogyi and that somogyi calls it the modified dreadnought shape. In fact he sought somogyi's permission to use that shape.

I saw this thread for the first time today and thought, "nice wood, but, he's got a long way to go before finishing that guitar". Then I jumped to page 7 of the thread and here was this gorgeous, finished guitar! I didn't have to wait for 3 months. Congratulations on another beautiful creation!

Bobby did a demo on the other side of the forum..and Wow, this guitar sounds so beautiful!
Can you tell me if Swiss Spruce and Moonspruce are basically the same? Swiss has that nice white look like Moonspruce. And of course Swiss is high altitude...so I assume they are close to being the same, or the very same?
And I also would like to know If your guitars are braced to take Medium gauge strings? Or do you build them for specific gauges and nothing else?

Hey Tom.

I can't remember when a guitar made as much of an impression on me.

I put about 6 hours of playing time on this fine instrument yesterday!! Its awesome in every way and it sounds as good as it looks which is saying a lot. I posted a NGD thread in the main part of the forum with a video link.

It sounds killer with GHS True Medium PB Strings on it for those who are interested in such things.

Thanks so much for your comment i am completely humbled by it! This particular MD can take lights or medium. Although over time lights would be better.

I'm sure a regular Dread case would fit fine. But I do get a custom fit case for my particular MD size.

Thanks for the comments! I understand where you are coming from but I think gitarro said it by best. It's really just a homage to Ervin and what he's done so well with the Modified Dread.

Yes Swiss spruce is moon spruce. It can handle mediums but over time it's best to have lights.
