By the time "Ok Boomer" is noticed by Boomers, it's already on it's way out.

...I still make disparaging remarks about geezers even though I am one...

Them: “OK, Boomer.”

I guess “OK, Boomer” is a reaction to anything that speaks to “a simpler time”.

I have begun seeing it on social media, more often than not as a non-thoughtful response to anything uttered by anyone over the age of 55...

Not meaning to be disparaging...just think it’s hysterical.
No, it's just a new phrase to express how young folks are not all that interested in hearing about how y'all walked to school in the snow, uphill both ways. It means times change, get used to it. Has nothing to do with "simpler times" for them, they're just basically saying that yelling from your porch about the good old days is a bunch of noise to them. They hear you, but they have their own world, their own priorities, and their own concerns. There's a cap on how much unsolicited "advice" young people want to hear about. Some, sure. All the time and about things that aren't relevant any more? Not so much.

Just like we all felt or feel when some old coot was pontificating a bit too much and complaining about the next generation.

Same as it ever was, just new language.

Probably because you're 70 and if you have kids they're probably not in middle school or high school. Come on over to my house. My kids use it, their friends use it. I get to tell them I'm not a boomer, but it's really not the point. I hear where they're coming from. I guess the point is, make your advice count. Pick your spots. Don't be the "get off my lawn" guy, because no one listens to that guy.

It's "discussions" like this that make me glad that I live physically and mentally on the edge of society...

Clearly, you've never been to my homeplace in East Tennessee where you did, indeed, walk uphill both ways. There simply wasn't any flat land - you spent your life traversing ridges and valleys. Football fields were excavated from the sides of hills.

"Ok, Boomer" should be reserved for Millennials (I'm a proud Gen-Xer), but I nearly used it in another forum this week. He continuously takes issue with his favorite guitar brand trying to appeal to a younger demographic, and he is very negative about anyone discussing how they use technology to enrich their lives. He personifies the "Ok, Boomer" meme.

I remember calling ignorant, set in there ways, old men "Rednecks" in the sixties. But then we didn't trust anybody over thirty back then. Wait? How have things changed?

It's kind of a two word summary of what the boomers as hippies said to their parent's generation... What comes around goes around.

Word up, bro!

The "OK Boomer" crowd (if it actually exists, which is doubtful) will be rejected by their children, who will look up to their wise and kindly grandparents.

So don't sweat it, daddy-o! It's all good!
