I have to agree on "Help." The thing though about the Beatles LPS is unless you were there it would be hard to imagine how much we anticipated the release of each LP. The 45 rpms which came out first only served to whet your appetite. Record companies though could go nuts with the singles. Columbia almost derailed the first Moby Grape LP when the came up with the gimmick to release very cut on the album as a single.

Had they included Penny Lane / Strawberry Fields on Sgt.P. ( as George Martin suggested) it would have been hard to beat. The albums are all great IMHO. I'll cheat and give a nod to the "Love"-mix done by father and son Martin.

Really hard to choose but I would go with the White Album overall. Such a variety and many are classics.

You gotta be kidding... How do you choose. This is why there is still nobody that has challenged them in the amount of hits and albums and impact on the music industry in such a short period of time.

I would have to say that my favorite is Seargent Pepper. Why? Because it is (arguably) the first popular album with a running theme from start to finish. With SP they blazed a path for others to follow in short order. Would there have been a Tommy (The Who) or others (at least in that time frame/era) had there not been a SP?

Fun thread!

I've often said that if I could only have ONE album.. from anyone.. the proverbial "deserted island" album,
it would be the Beatles White Album.

(not that I'd have anyway to play it on a deserted island)

It's not that it's the best album ever, or even THEIR best album,
but as was mentioned above, the diversity is unparalleled.
It has it all.
A very entertaining album.

That said, I have a strong affinity for Abbey Road.. it may be their "best" artistic accomplishment.

True enough, however John Lennon once said of Ringo that he is "the best Rock drummer alive...better than ANY f****r." There are certainly more flashy or technically accomplished drummers out there, but John had a valid point.

The first one I owned was Hard Day's Night, the next being Rubber Soul.

Today, if I had to pick a favourite, it would be Rubber Soul, closely followed by Revolver.

I think the late George Martin also said he never had to stop a recording because Ringo made a mistake.

That's kinda true, I agree; but will add the songs on all three albums were recorded between Jun '65 and May '66, the same time period I consider their "turn" from "early" and:
1) Songs "Yesterday" and "Day Tripper" are only Yesterday & Today;
2) "And Your Bird Can Sing" was released on Yesterday/Day before Revolver, so I attribute it to the former album and,
3) Nowhere Man was not on Rubber Soul US version, so again I attribute that to Yesterday & Today.

Given those 4 songs released in the US on Y&D (along w-the other tracks) I feel the album doesn't always get its due, but your point is well taken.

This is a discussion on greatest Beatle albums. I think if I answered the question today, right now, I might give a completely different answer (Listened to the White Album earlier today.

Paul once said, the Beatles were always interested in "the song" first and foremost, not individual playing. I've always thought Ringo's drumming was EXACTLY what each song called for. It may not have been technically complicated or advanced but it was often quite original and different from what any other drummer of that era would have played, and contributed to whole of each song in a way few if any other drummers would/could have done.
