 [/IMG]The Virtuoso cleaner made a dent after two applications, but I'm holding off on the polish. As you can see I'm off on one of my anti-pickguard missions, now using UV bulbs to blend the color. I won't replace it, of course, until I wear a Willie Nelson divot into it. Don't know if it's the cleaner, BK, but as it sits under the light day after day (fan blowing too), the nasty au de Right Guard is, dare I say, not so sharp.

Yes, I see.
Lamps won’t crack it, will they? What about something original like spray some red rubber ...purple? Black the whole top! (I really like the sound of my custom with the black gloss now - before I went for the ‘extra light finish coat’ and now it has cut the xtra overtones off or something I could not explain to friends any more than what you seem to be doing! )BluesKing777.

 [/IMG][IMG]  [/IMG][IMG]  [/IMG]You can shut 'em all up with a few blues licks and runs, I'm a little more dependent on show and tell. That black gloss turned out to be sweet, though. I had good tanning results removing the double guard ghost from the 00018. Coming into fall here...best time to set up on the lawn and accelerate the process. Friends know I'm a kook, too, when they walk up on a shrouded guitar. You gotta' have crazy balls to sand a Martin top, I'm told.

Ha, I like it - shut ‘em up with a few blues licks. Hmm, doesn’t work, they just get louder and ruder.
The 000 is a light of hope for your D though. It looks great. The Moon must be in the Seventh House of Guitar Revelations, this week. I have had 2 so far. No 1 is that a lot of my old and used guitars plain old stink. And the coffee bags suggestion in this thread is fab! I bought another box, but will hold back to see if the bags cause any horrors. No 2 is that a few of my pickguards stink as well. Out with the floss and the UV lamps... Now to say another thing about the gloss black on my Custom....by getting the guitar made with clear satin at the beginning and getting the top black glossed a few years later, I got a great piece of wood for the top whereas guitars with black often we have surprise timber and mostly ugly tops if you remove the finish!! I’ve always had luck with leaving a sheet of fabric softener in the case even if it may not be the best for this particular problem. Now after skimming through 60+ posts and not seeing fabric softener sheets mentioned, I’m worried that I’m doing irreparable damage to my once smelly Guild D25. You and your mind games, Interwebs.

Always careful of unforeseen chemical reactions when applying 'Rube Goldberg' attempts at solving such things, I'm considering a simple light cleaning with Clorox wipes, at the suggestion of my little sister.
It will be spending a considerable amount of time sunbathing, strings loosened, in the fresh air this week, with the weather cool enough to dare such a thing. In the meantime, I'll purposely avoid sniffing to see if the odor recedes and hope for a pleasant surprise. I use fragrance free dryer sheets anyway, but not interested in trading off one smell for another, even if it's coffee. That deodorant, whatever it is, has smell power. Would it be rude to ask the seller what it is?

Not much to do with guitars unless you get it on you and transfer to your D16, but an awful aroma is car alloy wheel cleaner (I don't think we can name them on the forum without getting sued). It is supposed to non-acid, non environmentally awful and foams up for the lazy person (hic) etc. It smells like perfumed dog doo or something and let me say, I did my wheels and there was not a breath of breeze but somehow one spot got on my pants and driving along yesterday afternoon it was all I could smell. Bin for all. Don't get that near a guitar.
