Like Jon (the long) one of the best guitars I ever owned was a D35 (1973) with a broken and repaired neck. Something very special about it. I sold it to a friend and whenever I hear him play it it breaks me up.

I have no plans to buy a three piece or any other guitar at present (which is a fatal thing to say!)
Often known but guitars used to be made sometimes with four piece backs AND fronts!

I’ll be the contrarian in this thread so far, because I’m not much of a D-35 fan. While I understand why those folks who have them love them, they really don’t suit the way I play.

But I voted for three piece backs in the poll, because one of my all-time favorite special edition Martins, the EMP-1, has a three piece back.

Definitely would. I love my D-35 (2017 Ambertone). I am also a big fan of the M-36s I've played.

I've seen multiple customs with 3 piece backs that I loved as well.

So yeah, I'd have zero problems with a 3-piece back.

For those of you that watched the video, Acoustic Addict, it mentioned how the 3 piece back made an actual measurable difference in tone, even with the same woods. I was quire surprised.

I voted yes, but I also would like a 4 pc back, maybe even a 5 or 6 pc one -

Aesthetically, a three piece back is appealing to me. As for the '35' style Martins, tonally, they have always appealed to me as well.

I voted 'yes'.

I've got a Beneteau with a three piece back. It was my choice when I ordered it, even though I'm certain it was more manufacturing steps for him. At the time I loved the look and felt that some guitar backs weren't stiff enough, though I have no recollection what I thought was significant about that. Superb guitar anyway.

Yes I would buy a guitar with a 3-piece back. Some are beautiful. I've heard that the D-35 is the best Martin for strumming. I've never played one, but, maybe someday I'll buy one.

There’s another Martin with a three piece back. The Grand Performance GPCPA4 Siris. It is a very pretty example of what can be done with East Indian Rosewood.

... and one for the Japanese.
My Morris B-50 has a 3-piece back.
All solid woods -Jacaranda back and sides with a Striped Maple centre wedge.

I've played guitars with 4-piece backs because the pieces weren't quite wide enough. No issues. I'd buy one if it sounded good.

Bought a new D35 in 73. Thought the 3-pc back was odd but I didn't buy it for that reason. Never gave it much thought, actually.
