Default Gig Posters

Hi
Not sure where this really belongs... I'm wondering what you all do for posters for your gigs. Have you found any relatively easy to use programs, apps, templates? Not looking for anything elaborate- photo, venue name, date, time etc. Just trying to avoid the expense for a graphic designer.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

We are involved in running an acoustic music club and create posters for our monthly concert afternoons and our festivals using volunteers from our club who know photoshop. One of them was a trained graphic designer, the other an artist who had a lesson on photoshop and has run with that.

It is one thing to be able to do stuff on Photoshop - or some of the free graphics programs. It is another to know how to make the poster look inviting.

There are some really easy to use templates available for many different programs from Word to Pages to Photoshop, etc. And some online printers (like vistaprint.com) have a web interface for create a custom poster from their templates. Google for whatever specific program you use (e.g. 'band poster template word').

A whole lot to be said for keeping it simple. A good photo and some bold, readable lettering can go a long way. And don't over-use colors -- 2 or three are plenty (I like black and red on white, but that's just me.) Start there and play around with just those elements until you come up with an idea or two that stands out for you. Adding some background textures too can give it some life -- just google "background textures" and you'll find some very useable and copyright-free stuff.

I use Canva.com and it's incredibly simple. You can upload your pictures, use templates and either use free or cheap elements. Here are a few of my ads...I don't claim to be an expert but I like to keep mine fairly straightforward and not take myself too seriously. I post these on FB then usually print a couple copies and share them with the club owner. They appreciate you doing the work for them. A small thing but it doesn't hurt when re-booking.

Default Poster my wall

We use https://www.postermywall.com/

Easy to use and you can download and print small ("8.5 X 11) for free. I highly recommend.
