Wow Bob that's my favourite version of a LP, which IMO don't look right without binding around the body. Just got my first Gibson, an SG with 57 classics. In 15 years of knowing my wife, she has complimented me twice--on the clean sound of this SG, as she did with an American Strat a few years ago. I just might turn in my Gretsch Country Gent for a LP...will have to look alot like yours!

Congrats! New LPs are so much fun! I too prefer the Traditionals, but when you find a good guitar, you buy said guitar! What finish is that? Cherryburst?

The new one is called "Heritage Cherry Sunburst."

Bob - Congrats on the Standard! What year is it?

Your '74 is beautiful. What does 'small script' mean? Is it just a term that is used by players because the logo is small or is it part of the model name?

Thanks for your kindness! The new Standard is a model year 2018 made a month ago.

"Small Script" does indeed refer to the size of the script in the word "Standard" on the truss rod cover. The term is a collector's term. Standards built in Kalamazoo before the official launch of the Les Paul Standard as the premier model produced in Nashville had a much smaller script on the Standard logo. The Nashville launch was in 1976. Before that the guitar didn't show up in the catalogs or advertising. It doesn't appear that Gibson made any replacement "Standard" truss rod covers with the small script so the presence of the small script cover places the guitar in the time band of mid-1973 to early 1975.

Congratulations and very pretty guitar, Bob! I have a Les Paul Standard with a Plus top that has that similar cherry heritage sunburst finish. Your finish has maybe more of the rose color around the edges than mine, but they are fairly close.

Very nice!

- Glenn

Very nice Bob! I hadn't paid too much attention to electrics over the years - but this is beautiful!
