I have an old '80 Yamaha SJ-180 that I keep tuned in Open D and that thing just rings and sounds great. It definitely sounds better than my X series Martin.

Don't you just hate it ...when you buy an old beater and it ends up sounding better than your "good" guitars?

Quote:
I would rather ascribe it to the player's finely tuned senses picking out a really nice sounding guitar no matter what the price.

Conversely, if an experienced player is testing a 'heard' of guitars, there is a tendency to judge many of them rather quickly and eliminate the unqualified from purchase consideration. That is, why waste time with an instrument that doesn't 'click'?

Maybe I should submit "A Heard of Guitars" to the guy who irregularly updates "An Exaltation of Larks"?
You know, like "A Pride of Lions".

p.s. exaltation is happiness or raising one up. hmmm.....

play music!

Book is titled "An Exaltation of Larks or, the Venereal Game" by James Lipton. It has been updated at least once, and maybe a second time, possibly by a different author.

Rather than me trying to explain it, look up "collective nouns" (for animals if you get a choice) on wikipedia.

Here is a link for the explanation:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collec...erms_of_venery

And here is a link for a list by animal:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...ery,_by_animal

I like a "murder of crows", among others.

Do they make good caddies? Stick the clubs in their pouches?

If you rout an octopus, will it 'rally'?

It'a not official, but I like a 'fluke' of whales.
