The Pear just won't quit being kind to me. I wish I had more of the wood, I'd make another one! Today I got a note from Dan Gabel over at Peghead Nation to let me know the interview his biz partner Teja Gerken did a few weeks ago with me is officially published. And I think it is a great job. See it here.

Great work Bruce!
The Pear cutaway sounds incredible....a bit more mellow, to my ear, than the Brazilian. Both are fantastic instruments! Thanks! |

What happened to the bottle of hooch to the upper right of the unfinished guitar in the background?
Let me be the first to say it's been a pleasure following this thread. Let's retitle it Sexauer '15! |

I enjoyed that video very much Bruce... great to hear some of your history and philosophy on building. I only wish there had been a bit more of the duet playing! Speaking of which, how did your restaurant gig go?
All the best for 2015 and thanks for all the wonderful builds in 2014. Cheers Berf |

I have had the bottle for years, and it is highly prized! It was awarded to me at an NCAL meeting (Northern California Association of Luthiers) by Ervin Somogyi. The label on the wine reads "Chateau Clos (but no cigar)". Ervin was the ringleader of the group at that time.
The gig Berf refers to has not come yet. I have a trio performing dinner music at Native Kitchen, a restaurant here in Petaluma on January 3. I haven't played out in a couple of years, so this is a thrill for me. We'll be playing the sort of music you've been hearing in my various guitar demos the last few years, which I call "Americana". I'll play guitar with bass and percussion as support. Strictly instrumental. |

Thanks for posting that interview with Teja, Bruce. I quite enjoyed your narrative on these two stunning instruments, and Teja's playing showed how sparkling, clear, and PRESENT your instruments are. Your guitars have the quality of legend. (I wish I could afford to adopt one of your pre-owned ones!)
I hope you have a very happy, healthy, prosperous New Year! Keep doing what you do SO WELL, and I hope we can anticipate a new "Sexauer 2105" thread here in the Custom Shop. -Steve

Sort of off topic, but who else besides you uses Pernambuco for modern flat tops? I can't think of another builder, and I've always wanted to try one.

Klepper, Brondel, Carruth, PRS, and maybe McKnight.

Also add Jim Olson, Ted Davis (RIP) and Canadian classical guitar luthier Jeremy Clark. Don't we need a "Sexauer 2015" thread already?

I know I´m a bit late with my comment
but I guess it´s never too late... Thank you all, especially Bruce, for posting all of this history! It is -for me- the most interesting posting I´ve ever read!

Wow, look what you found! And to think I’ve kept this blog going for 6 more years. Some enterprising Soul could probably turn it into a useful book.
