Default SRV interview/acoustic playing

This little gem popped up in my YouTube feed. It's dubbed in French and is pretty low quality but given that Stevie died almost 30 years ago it is what it is. What's notable is that he is playing acoustic, which I haven't seem much of over the years.

For you gear-oriented people, the video claims that he is playing a 1929 Gibson L1. I don't know much about Gibsons but I suppose that unless someone knew how those scratches got there they'd be beside themselves on the hit to the guitar's value - that is if a now 90 year old guitar still exists!

As for the playing, I don't doubt that Stevie is playing with lights - since he pretty much played a similar gauge of strings on his electrics. I wouldn't be surprised if the frets were toast given all the bending. That being said, he also claims that at this point he had been playing for 21 years and professionally for 15. That's kind of humbling.

I think I need to go practice!

Thanks for posting that video. As an ignoramus, I never knew much about SRV our about the buzz about his playing. Now I get it.

You can hear the influence of another Texas great Lightnin' Hopkins in there. SRV and his brother Jimmie were big fans.

I saw this amazing man at JazzFest in New Orleans just a few months before his untimely death in 1990 (can it really be that long ago?!). Not acoustic (BTW, the vid above is awesome) but I knew I had to see this guy play and was NOT disappointed in any way. Just saw there's a video of that show as well...http://www.offbeat.com/news/video-st...t-performance/

Enjoy!
