Help with my GAS - 414ce-R or D-28
My fellow blog friends, I have caught GAS badly and now I am looking for a rose wood guitar. I do know the two I am looking at are oranges and apples - Martin sound vs Taylor sound, GA vs D, electronics (D-28 without it)...
Have you played these guitars? If you have played could you please give me your impressions and which you favor? |

The D-28 is more likely to sound like a rosewood guitar.

How did you come to these two? (Yes, apples and oranges.) Are these two on a list of guitars you wish to acquire and are available now? We need to know more. Well, at least I do, to offer any useful 2 cents worth. I have a 28. |

I haven’t owned a 414ce-R...but I’ve had three other EIR Taylors (an 814, 812e 12-fret and a V-Class 714ce). I’d definitely go with the D-28...

Yeah, this is a little like “do I get a pickup or a convertible?” What are you trying to achieve? What do you want this guitar to do that your other guirars don’t do? Have you played either of these models? If so, what do you like and not like about them? Context would be really helpful to give you a decent answer.

Speaking as someone who owns a 414ce and used to own a D-28, well...... guess what I suggest. Playability and good intonation took precedence for me. My 414 handles everything that I want to do, including bluegrass jams.

I’d look at a rosewood Taylor dreadnought if I was going to compare it to a D28.
I’m not really a GA guy so I would pick a D28 or a 414cer. Are you getting rid of one of your current Taylor or Martin? If so and you like both makers sounds, I’d get the opposite brand of the one you trade in.

Martin D-28 or a Martin M-36. Both are fantastic guitars.

If you are looking at a dread why not a 717? Or a Martin MMV?

Listen to this guy!!! Seriously though, i have recently played both those guitars for like two hours in one sitting at GC. The D-28 had been sitting there for a while by the looks of the strings and the Taylor 414 was a V-class. Both had the same wood all around, spruce and rosewood. All solid of course. The Taylor sounded and played great. But the Martin was a little bit more. The Martin had the nice bright ring i was looking for. So i got the OM-28 because i wanted the auditorium shape.

I would go with the D-28 but I would check this one out first.
