No, John Pearse armrests work just fine on satin finishes. I put one on my satin finish Larrivee OM-3W the day I brought it home from Canada in 1998, and it hasn’t fallen off or shifted a millimeter in the more than 20 years since: it’s rock solid and hasn’t moved at ALL.

I own another satin finish Larrivee and a couple of satin finish Tacoma guitars. They’ve all got John Pearse armrests on them, and there’s never been the slightest problem with any of them.

True enough, satin or gloss doesn't matter. Neither one has moved in 3+ years.
Makes an already comfortable body size (grand concert) a real pleasure to play.
