As another hardtail strat guy, that’s NICE! I actually really like the 7.25” fretboard radius, but I like it best with narrow tall frets. With vintage frets, the setup really has to be perfect to avoid fretting out on bends up the neck. But my roadworn tele has a 7.25” board with narrow tall frets and it’s the nicest playing electric I own or probably ever have...

Thanks!
I guess I'm very much accustomed to a more flat radius. My 80's acoustic, '80s Ibanez electric, and TeleStrat partscaster all have something much more flat. 7.25" is certainly great for some things. Other things take some getting used to. I seem to adapt fine to different neck profiles - why not to different fretboard radius...

Fretboard radius is a funny thing. On Fender necks (or Fender TYPE necks - I've found the same thing is true with Reverends and other maple bolt on necks shaped sort of like Fenders), I'm perfectly happy with 7.25 or 9.5, but I've never been even remotely comfortable with 12". And I've tried any number of them that I WANTED to like because I liked the guitar they were bolted onto. But for some reason a 12" fretboard just feels completely wrong to me on those necks.

But I've played and owned any number of Gibson, Ibanez, Epiphone, PRS, etc necks that are 12" radius and they feel perfectly natural and great to me. And obviously my acoustics are generally 16" or flatter and I'm fine with those too, but then acoustics are really completely different instruments. But electrics shouldn't feel that different. I have no idea whey I'm fine with 12" necks on many guitars but not Fenders. It surely doesn't make sense, but I've run into it often enough that I believe it at this point.

Strat's are great!

Man what an awesome color!! I remember back in the 80's when I was a kid a little shop opened up about 20 miles from us. Now I do not know what year it was but there was an old strat in there that had saw some action but it was the same color as this 59 custom shop you have here. I guess may it is Daphne Blue possibly? Anyways, I thought that it was so cool and he was only asking like 400 for it back then. I wish I could have got it but oh well....

Correct BigTim, it is indeed Daphne blue. Looks a different shade in almost every photo!! I've always thought this colour particularly matched with a rosewood 'board looks fab. Cheers!

These are about as close as I get to a Strat. Both have a coil splitter at the bridge. My fretting hand needs at least a 12" radius and I prefer a 2 point trem.

Good thing this isn't a Fender purist forum. There, we'd miss all the cool non-Stratocaster(TM) guitars, like Suhrs, Kramers, G&Ls, and the partscasters

Here’s my 1993 VRI ‘63. Just about mint with all the case candy except the cord.

It’s for sale if anyone is looking.

Sweet! I'd like to have a G&L.

That's the US made G&L, correct? Did you do any A/B'ing with a Fender Strat?
