Did I do the right thing?
[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG] I can only imagine some of the replies I will get for posting this. My beautiful X30 pictured above is no longer with me. Here's a shorter version of the story. I had an uncle who came by to visit me recently and just left today actually. We both live in Canada but on opposite sides so we only see each other maybe once every 2 years. Well when I took him to my music room downstairs after a quick glance around he made his way to the X30. Besides the visual glamour from the veneer he also loved the sound from it. Of course he's never heard of Emerald Guitars before and started asking me all the typical questions that you would expect and most importantly "how do I get one of these". I'll cut out more of the bla bla bla and eventually I told him when you leave tomorrow morning that guitar is going with you. Of course he resisted, offered to pay me for it but I refused. He should be retired by now but he likes to work and will retire soon so this is certainly a nice retirement gift for him. I will definitely miss that guitar, in fact I miss it already. The X30 is quite unique the way it sends vibrations through your body while you play and I will miss that part the most compared to my other guitars. Getting another X30 is not an option right now. I know it's going to a good place with a good owner. I can go on and on but I'll end it here. |

I have to call this a shining example of "playing it forward". Generosity is never a wrong choice to make.

Nobody can answer that question for you, only can share their opinion. I just happen to agree with all the opinions so far. That is a stunning instrument but can be replaced- people like yourself that do these sort of things cannot. Yes it had a unique veneer but if you liked the tone and feel you can always get a carbon copy in that respect. FYI- There is a gently used black one in the classifieds now for $1900. X20 is the biggest I will go . Nicely done!

That’s a beautiful instrument and one generous gesture, Shawn. Good on ya! Your uncle must be absolutely thrilled. I’m also in Canada, possibly in-between you and your uncle. He’s welcome to stop by my place on the way back home.

Of course you did the right thing - that's a beautiful retirement present! And in time, if you choose to, you'll be able to replace it. And if you're happy enough with your X20 and whatever other guitars you have around, you'll barely miss it. And how much you do or don't miss it will tell you whether you end up wanting to buy another. You're a fine nephew.
And, BTW, I have a few nieces but no nephews, so if you feel the need to adopt another uncle at some point, I'm available! No, seriously man. Well done... You no doubt made him very happy and probably did the same for yourself - it's a win win proposition... -Ray |

Hats off to you, Shawn!
What your uncle got was so much more than just a cream of the crop guitar!! I am in line behind Ray for your uncle interview process. Still have your X20? G |

Well done for sure......Music is part of the soul and it sounds like your uncle has that covered in spade's with your gift of your x30.......I have given at least 8 guitars over the last 10 years to children and teens to spark the interest in music and I must say it not only is good for their soul but your's as well.
