Breaking news from Ryan Guitars! (Vague but so cool!)
Kevin just told me that I was welcome to release a bit of news! As he put it "the thread will be the first mention of this anywhere in the world"
So, Kevin Ryan has been working with guitarist Eric Lugosch for the past three years and they are a few months away from unveiling a "brand new kind of instrument". That is all the information he gave me, hahaha! Quite a tease! But, the implications are super cool! Ok, new build pics soon! |

This is just so perfect, (pics)
I've had the dream of using black pearl instead of paua for a long time and I didn't know if it was possible. When I asked Kevin way back when he told me to hold on, and when he came back he said absolutely it was possible and that we could use it anywhere I wanted.
My dream was that the black pearl would be subdued and classy...and these pics are my first view of the "Diamonte" fretboard! Also, Kevin told me that we are nearing the finish line....oh my goodness! The staining of the cedar top is this week (goes into finish after that). Kevin will spend this week figuring out how he will go about it...airbrush? Stain? He may burst it following the lines of the guitar using Moonglow as inspiration or he may go with vertical lines and mimic Moonglow Redwood. Either way, hearing him say it will ship this month was surreal. |

~update~
Kevin has full artistic freedom with how he approaches the shading of the top. Now, it is possible that we don't end up shading at all but he is certainly going to spend some time working out how he'd like to go about it. Moonglow redwood has vertical lines that run through it which could be something Kevin mimics...Moonglow is also very dark on the outside edges of the lower bout which Kevin may decide to black burst it with a focus there.
He is going to do a full mock up on what he called a "throw away" top and then we will make a final decision. Most of my friends are already against it because of how beautiful the guitar looks already, ha! Buuut, I do love shaded tops and I would never doubt Kevin Ryan's ability to wow. I'll keep you apprised. |
