Hi Bobby,
It’s good to hear from you. I suspect the black discoloration on my fingers is my body chemistry reacting to one of the metals in their string alloy (which is probably copper)? It’s not due to corrosion because all of my GHS strings are in their new plastic packaging, so no corrosion worries there.

Default GHS Strings, the best I've played

Well, i put on the d'addario's and they really sound great. They really do sound like the pkg says, deep, bright and projecting. I'm still going to try the ghs and martin retro, just so i can compare.

BTW, the custom light feel much much better, a lot less tension and still a whole lot of punch and volume, a very full sound.

Bruce, I toggle between those and Americana (a little brighter) and Vintage Bronze (a little warmer). Strings and Beyond is running a sale on GHS Strings through the end of the month, so I just stocked up on all three. They ship internationally (friends in the UK and Canada order from them), but not sure if they go all the way to Australia or not.

Before I discovered John Pearse strings and became an avid convert to those, my preferred strings were made by GHS. I mean, I used plenty of other brands as well, as circumstances dictated, but GHS strings were my go-to. They make excellent strings.

As do D'Addario and just about every other string manufacturer out there these days. We're incredibly fortunate to have such a wide selection of brands and string alloys to choose from. Unlike in the bad old days, nobody's making bad or even mediocre strings anymore.

GHS is one of my go to brands. As Wade said, there are sure a lot of good choices out there for strings these days. Always fun to discover a set that hits the sweet spot on a particular guitar.

Best,
Jayne

Thanks for that, I've bought from them a lot, fantastic customer service too.
In fact I'm waiting for delivery on some more sets of GHS - CU-BBHT 'Nashville Tuning' strings they got in for me.

This thread got me to try GHS acoustic strings PB.

Loved the obvious care in manufacture and the brilliant appearance, wasn't overblown by the sound, until I tried the Americana series medium PB S435.

They've been on for about two (2) weeks now, and I agree with the original poster. Best I've ever tried. Just amazing.

Well you just made me order some!

... and some Vintage Bronze.

... and some Signature Bronze.

Strings & Beyond are just winding down a 20% off GHS strings sale so timing was perfect!

I can never find those or the parabolic santa cruz brand. So i always end up settling for what GC has in stock. However, those d'adarrio ones are coming along nice. But will be ordering both mentioned above online i guess.

I’m about to put some Vintage Bronze on my J35 after having Pyramid Western Folk round core PB’s on it. I’ll report back.

Tried the GHS Phospher Bronze this past string change.

They're good strings. Like dozens of other premium brands, nothing more, nothing less, IMO.

Woops, I forgot that I’d put on Pearse 80/20’s since the Pyramids. Just picked up the J35 and those Pearse 80/20’s actually sound excellent on their last legs. Still have just enough ring to not be “dead”. That’s after 2 gigs, one outside near salt water for over 2 hours. They were quite bright initially. Really looking forward to the “warm “ Vintage Bronze
