Default NGD (the G is for Guild)

I have always had a thing for old Guilds. I had the chance to pick up a ‘73 S-100 and had to jump on it. It is in very nice original condition and is rock solid. One piece mahogany body and the perfect neck carve.

The S-100 is obviously Guild’s answer to the SG though they are decently dissimilar. To my ear, less honk and brashness than the SG but I’m not as familiar with vintage SGs.

The quality Guild put out back then is outstanding. With its phase switch you get some great P-90ish tones. Certainly able to achieve about any rock tone.

Any other old Guild electric owners out there?

Gotta post a pic or it doesn't count!

Seriously, nice guitar! I have owned a Polara and have owned several other Guild electrics. Currently I own an X175b and it's just a great guitar! The Polara is shaped like a Gibson, but as you noted, it doesn't sound like a Gibson. It has its own thing going on.

I was hoping it was going to be an older Guild acoustic.

I was hoping it was going to be a newer Guild acoustic.

I’m not good at the picture posting thing.

The guitar is crazy light and resonant. I didn’t love the tank-like qualities of my vintage Guild acoustic but the rock solid build suits an electric very well.

The stock humbuckers sound nothing like my new Les Paul. More airy for sure, which is great for covering tonal ground.

A very kind forum member offered to post some photos for me, as I am visually impaired so it isn’t easy. So those could be coming soon!

Loving this guitar. Finding more of its unique and interesting qualities. It resonates so much that it’s a really fun experience playing it. It comes through in the tone. Often if a guitar is loud when played unplugged they end up being pretty special.

It could not be more different than my Les Paul, which smells like fresh nitro and weighs 10 lbs. This guy smells like a basement (in a good way) and can’t be much over 6 pounds (if that).

This may open a whole new can of worms, vintage guitars....
