One of the great slopes either from Collings (CJ35; CJ45T) or Huss and Dalton (DS; DS-12 Crossroads).

Motorcycles remain far more deadly than cars per mile traveled.

Nice Stryker. I just got a new old stock '15 Bullet Cowl in camo green. My first cruiser and I'm loving it. It should sell fairly quick for $5k. As for a guitar, can a Collings be had for that kinda money? I'm not yet at that price level of guitar buying.

Smile My two cents...

Lots of interesting and wise advice above.

You might find hanging out in the Custom Shop/AGF "Luthier's section" to be most intriguing.

Perhaps a hand built custom to YOUR personal specs would salve the loss of the bike!

I love my John Kinnaird Customs with the many comfort features!

Stay safe and have fun anyway!

So I had several lowball offers for the bike. Feels like I’m selling a guitar

In her wisdom she came back with “Better to have a guitar you don’t need then to have a motorcycle you never ride”. On a side note, she works in health care and has seen enough motorcycle related injuries in the last few years to form a strong opinion. Having a kid has reinforced those opinions, even if I am an experienced defensive rider.
But I can’t argue with her logic

Silly premise
So, just for fun, If you didn’t need another guitar, what guitar would you get? And, have you ever sold something (non-music related) to get a guitar (you didn’t need)?...... Chances are I will just keep the bike For the summer, and when I do sell it I will put the funds toward retirement or the kids education fund.

If I did get a guitar it would be something I don’t have, such as an M/OOOO or or a parlor.

FYI: hear is the bike in question. Has around 9,000 miles on it. On line I see them listed for around 6 grand. Figured I would take 5 Grand. 2011 Yamaha Striker. .

I live in your neck of the woods, just 20 minutes north of Asheville in Marshall (Madison County), also via NY. I was telling my wife the other day this is the perfect place to own a motorcycle and I've been thinking about selling a couple of guitars and buying one. I didn't get much of a response so I know what she's thinking but that's never stopped me ;-). There are so many country roads with minimal traffic and it's just beautiful here. Do you ever get up this way to ride?

If I was going to sell a 5k bike and buy a guitar it would be a McIlroy A25 or A30 and pocket a few bucks.

The few rides I’ve done have been along the blue ridge parkway. Absolutely a beautiful ride. These days it’s the 3 of us having picnics with some breathtaking views. So it’s 4 wheels for us.

When I was living in NYC. I would ride to get out of the city. Now that I’m in the mountains of WNC there’s no need to getaway.

Got a couple of responses from Craigslist and the local facebook market place. But I’m a reluctant seller, so I’m not going to accept low ball offers.

I've only sold other guitars to fund a new-to-me guitar. From the looks of your collection, you clearly need a jumbo Guild 12-string.

I agree to go with a Guild. I'd buy an Orpheum 12 fretter or an Orpheum 12 string. Both were built in the New Hartford plant when Ren Ferguson was there for a very short time. There are a couple on Reverb right now. I absolutely love my Orpheum 12 fretter. It's basically a Smeck with red spruce top and bracing and hot hide glue build.

This is an interesting question, in reality less we are pros playing multiple styles live every week, we probably dont need more than one guitar to play and make music on.

...but alas , guitars are not just functional, but have personality, can works of art and the best motivate us to play more and learn. Learning to play an instrument helps us in life, with discipline, focus and dedication all good life skills, and with the opportunity to play with others, important social skills (managing 'musical differences' excluded )

So an alternative might be to use the cash to buy a lovely instrument, not for yourself, but for your daughter to cherish, learn on and maybe fund music lessons etc?

I've ridden motorcycles since I got my first Cushman Eagle at 14- my last bike is a Harley I waited along time to get, a Dyna Convertible 94? model IMS, I've had for 11 years- need has nothing to do with bikes, or guitars.

I would like to own a newer Harley. I also saw a new orange jeep pick-up I'd like to own. I have a 98 Silverado that time has made it look like a rat rod-

Would like to own is not the same as wanting to acquire. Last April (2020) I started acquiring guitars, because I wanted to. I now have 12 and number 13 should be here today. A Martin 00017. I have a Martin 00015M- I don't need anything. I want guitars.
