Default Acoustic Guitarist Of The Year 2018

Clip I just found.

Since April, we’ve been on the hunt for the best amateur acoustic guitarists around the world, to see who should be crowned Acoustic Guitarist of the Year 2018. The live final was held at the UK Guitar Show on Saturday 29 September.

Thanks for posting that.

Obviously a very talented player, but to be honest, I expected better for "Acoustic Guitarist of the Year" (I guess he is one of the finalists, though?).

I managed to listen all the way through, but like the first YouTube poster, I was annoyed that he missed one of the intro notes (LOL).

I also did not care for his tone.

Or the location of his strap button.

Interesting that he is playing a Maton. He is clearly a good guitar player, obviously influenced by Tommy Emmanuel. He's certainly influenced me, too, so I understand that.

I do look forward to the day when a pickup system actually sounds like an acoustic guitar. The makers of pickup systems are still not quite there yet. I can see why a solo acoustic instrumental player does not want to be tied down to a microphone, I understand why they want to be able to move around on the stage. But when I listen to an acoustic guitar player, I really want to hear an acoustic guitar. We'll get there eventually and we are certainly getting closer.

Maton does a good job with their pickup system, but it still doesn't sound quite like a true acoustic guitar to my ears.

I don't mean this in a snarky way at all, but I was expecting to hear an acoustic guitar...

One of the reasons I bought a Cole Clark is that, to me, it sounds just like itself when it's amplified through its pickup system. Of course, that's my personal experience, YMMV, but if that's what you're after maybe it's worth checking out one.

Music shouldn't be a contest.

My 1st link was to a finalist.

This is a link to the winner https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnJdmgh1VMs

This sounds messy to me, prefer the 1st guy.

Amazing, but it's cheating if you're allowed to use couch cushions.

While both are very talented I didn't care for either player or the sound of their 'electric' acoustics. And why does the first guy have CGP inlaid on his fingerboard? Did he borrow TE's guitar?

The percussive parts were too loud for the melody, in my view. Needs a bit more sonic balance.
