A nice solid white or black pick guard will let the flamed top be the star of the show. My preference would be white, but either white or black would look good.
!LOL!

but yea, yer right, that is a very nicely figured hunk-a wood.

I'd skip it with a nice top like that.

That's always an option. Although, I do prefer a pickguard on a Tele. I don't like the gap in the wood around the neck pickup.

My vote is white. I get what you are saying about the gap around the neck pickup. I feel the same way. But, that is a very pretty top.

Looking forward to seeing some picks with each of those pickguards!

I like the black look in your pics above. No pickguard also works because that's beautiful grain.

I just found this online. Didn't know it existed. I'm going to order one just to see how it looks. It may be the answer to the no pickguard approach.

A pickup mounting ring. That should work.

Default 3 more

I just received 3 more pickguards in the mail today. Dark tortoise, cream colored, aged pearl. I'm still waiting for the chrome pickup ring to arrive.

What do you think of these? Any preference?

I’ll stick with my original thought - I think the dark tortoise looks terrific.

Thanks. This one looks a lot better than the other one I have. It's darker. The other one has more red in it.

I like the tortoise better then the lighter colored ones, but, I'm also a fan of tortoise pickguards in general.

Are you still considering potentially not using a pickguard? I guess we have to wait for the chrome pickup ring to come in.

Thanks, Dru. Yes, I want to see what the chrome ring looks like before I start drilling any holes. USPS says it will be here this Thursday.

If I decide to use a pickguard, I will have to shave off some pickguard material where the control panel goes. All of them fit the same. I guess whoever routed the opening for the controls cut it just a bit too far forward. The routing is a bit wide also and the control plate just barely covers the cutout.
