Just finished Cj Box's latest Joe Pickett novel, "Dark Sky"... it was great. I've really enjoyed the entire series; Box has done a great job developing characters along the way, and letting them shine.

Lately, I've been reading all of Greg Hurwitz's novels in the "Orphan X" series and have enjoyed each of them.

Still working my way through Walter Mosley and Lawrence Block... I like Mosley okay but his "grinding the axe" of black vs. white gets a bit pedantic, after a fashion. Seems he's more interested in propagating cultural discord than somehow bridging whatever gap is there... Block has a wonderful command of the language and has some very interesting characters, each with different avenues in life.

Awaiting Rickie Lee Jones' autobiography, "Last Chance Texaco"... I've heard it's very good...

Great! I have it on my Amazon list to buy. I have all of King's books except this one, which only came out a couple weeks ago. No spoilers please but great to hear your positive response.

This is free if you have Amazon Prime. I would say he is influenced by Phillip Roth and John Irving. Not as graphic or twisted as some of their stuff. I liked it.

Trying to decide whether or not to enter the world of Herbert’s DUNE. Never read it. The new film adaptation will be released in the fall, so there’s a ton of hype — Hans Zimmer is scoring, and that alone is enough to get me to see the movie. But I’m on the fence about getting into the books.

Thoughts??

Definite yes. I read it when it came out and recently read it again. One of my favorites and it has aged pretty well. I never got into the sequels so can't comment there. Definitely read it before you see the movie.

Go for it. I've never read it but Iron Maiden wrote a song about it back in 1982 called "To Tame a Land". Lots of words I couldn't pronounce in the lyrics, which I assume are from the book. Muad' Dib, Kwizatz Haderach, Gom Jabbar. I actually learned to play this song back in the late 80s (poorly) and then much better 10 years later.

I'm going to be "gifted" with a copy of Healing Wings: A personal journey of miracles and healing through Guillain-Barre' syndrome- by Natalie Sherwood- I met her late last week- she bought my Fender Parlor Body from an ad on Craigslist-
