Default Proper pricing on a used Taylor 214ce

Guys,

I have one less than a year old, in near mint condition, and I want to sell it. I listed it a month back, but didn't bump it. I'll try again. What's a fair price including shipping in your opinion? Do these price out at the 50% MSRP rule like recent Martins, plus wiggle?

Seems like the going rate is a bit over 60% street price, though the market is pretty heavy with them so some of it depends on how quickly you are wanting to sell it.

There is a decent history of this model in the Reverb Price Guide. Perusing the entries should give you a good feel for current market price.

Good luck with your sale!

Some makers have a consistent MSRP system, so that can give you a good starting point, but MSRP isn't an economically determined value, so it's always good to get additional info if you can.

What you really need is data on similar recent sales. In this, case, since the 214ce is a very popular instrument, it's not too hard to find. Reverb gives us a range of about $600 - $800 for the non deluxe 214ce. Incidentally, it's MSRP is $1328, so 50% would be $664. This one supports the MSRP trick.

I'd say if you want it to sell with a reasonable turn-around, stay around $700 all-in.

I recently sold a 114e that I had for about a year. Paid $625 new...sold for $450. If you can get $700 out of your 214 and move it quickly that would be about right.

Thanks guys... I just listed it for $700 plus shipping (added in freebies). We'll see what happens.

Well... if someone were local, Id not include the freebies, not ship, and not pay any fees...and Id sell my excellent one for $600. So that sounds about right and good feedback.

Thanks for the feedback... shipping is a hassle - cash is king.

From quick sampling.

$700-$800 is the street price you can expect to pay at a Pawn Shop, Guitar Center, Reverb.com, etc...
$350-$450 is what you can expect to be offered at a Pawn Shop, Guitar Center, etc.. (lower if it's in less than like-new condition)

Ranges are kind of wide, but that's just the reality with Taylor resale value. Private sell on craigslist will bring you somewhere between the two ranges.

50% of list is about right for one in excellent to mint condition. If it were mine, I would list it at $650 plus shipping on Reverb and remove the make offer option, and I would list it at $600 firm, plus shipping here. And do not try to add Paypal fees, it rubs some people the wrong way, and it's not only against Paypal rules, it's actually illegal in most states.

Good luck

I think what Ted said is a fair price from what I have seen.

Thanks again for the thoughtful replies.

It's listed for $700 plus with the added freebies. Maybe I'll keep the freebies and follow the advice here, especially Ted's

Default Proper pricing on a used Taylor 214ce

For whatever it's worth... a few months ago I was dead set on getting a 314ce. I found that the 214's were being sold for as much if not more than the 314's. I haven't searched on reverb lately... but when I was I could get a 314 between 600-700. That would make your 214 very hard to sell at that price.

If you're looking to move it without trouble I think it's more of a $450-500 guitar realistically.

Ted's valuation seems dead on to me.

The latest (built in 2017) 100 and 200 series have upgraded to ebony to save on import fees, so I expect older ones to be driven down in price slightly as well.
