Default Useless to paint nails--recommendations if you can?

Hi! This question is for anyone out there (females or even males if paint your nails) and whether it is useless to do so, or if you've found any products that stand up to amateur playing (hobby/lessons and such). I received a new ring for my anniversary and my nails are so ugly just short and plain-- with no pizzazz and I want to show it off! Anyone paint their nails, and if so, can you give any advice? Thanks! (Be kind please, I know this is a little shallow

Before I started getting acrylic gel nails, I used Sally Hansen's Hard As Nails. It works pretty well.

I use this just on the overhanging area of the nails for fingerpicking. It holds up well for me.

Back in the '90s my wife dragged me down to her salon and had them put on acrylics, the liquid type. I've done that ever since. More HERE.

You mean the powder + liquid UV cured? Loved the tone and was only charged $8 for 4 fingers worth and did it for a couple of years. My problem with it was after a few weeks the strings periodically got caught in the back of it as it move across the fingernail like a glacier when the fingernails grew so I decided to strengthen my nails with the Sally Hansen product I mentioned above.

My wife does her own nails with the powder and UV hardening gel.

Thanks all for the advice. I've been reluctant to commit to acrylic nails, (especially during COVID and all the shut downs) so I'll try the Sally Hanson product you guys suggested.

It is powder and microbeads, just like doing a fiberglass seam. In my case it isn't UV cured. When you start catching the strings it is time for a fill.

I extend the time between fills by doing a bit of filing with an emery board and then applying Sally Hansen's Hard As Nails to fill the space.
