He is pretty amazing, I agree. I find most of his compositions scary, at times, demented in a positive way.
I'm sure you would like Andy McKee if you like Don. McKee seems a little bit more musically in his compositions, less agressive.

Did you get the tabs for 'Nocturne' ? I bought the CD with the Book. 'Nocturne' is really great guitar piece and surprisingly really not that difficult, except for those tapping lines. For some reason I can't play that very well. I guess, practice makes perfect someday.

No, I haven't, and that is actually my least favorite song on the Nocturne Album. Have you seen Don Ross on the Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour? I think it is show #343, if you want to download it. Good stuff.

Yes, I have. I told you, he some scary, agressive player, but talks like he is 16. I loved his baritone guitar.
BTW, I downloaded the video and made a CD.
You know, I'm kind of curious why guys like McKee & Ross don't play duets. Would that be chaos or what ?

i got to hear some of the new stuff off of don's record live (as chad mentioned, the download is available now and the cd is out 12/27), up in canada, in june. i really like "tochigi" and "brooke's waltz," among others. in addition to being one of the best and most influential players in the world, don's a super nice guy and brooke miller (his singer-songwriter wife; they were married earlier this year) is incredibly talented and quite the hoot. she and don are working on her new album. they've been collaborating and doing some shows together.

andy's new record "art of motion" is a big leap, i think, even for andy. i really dig it. don's a big fan of andy's, and i imagine it works the other way, too.

both don and andy are on candyrat records these days. upstart indie label with a number of great players. (and then there's me.)

Andys, "Art Of Motion" I didnt see anything about that on his site, then I followed your link to it. Looks like it is mostly the songs of his first two albums, with a few new tunes mixed in.

the guy who started the candyrat label, rob poland, is a sincere fan of the guitar. i think he's done a great and admirable thing by collecting this music. i like the radio feature too. it's quite odd and not a little frightening to hear oneself in a radio stream alongside don and andy and michael manring, and all of the other great players on the label! i just heard my "between the rains" followed by don's "rockbarra." and it doesn't take much to humble me, mind you...

bob evans' "six strings and a million possibilities" weekly radio show/stream is another great place to hear great, and often quite diverse, guitar music.

Yep, your stuff is great.. I like Bobs show.. Im a member of the Kottke News Group as well as Bob. Although, he doesnt post very often. We (the group) do have our second CD coming out. It is a collection of mostly original songs from the members of the group. The first one was pretty cool, and I believe this one has more people, and more songs.

cool on all of it.

i'm sure you know - one of don's biggest influences was kottke. one of the cool things candyrat is doing is re-releasing a bunch of don's earlier, out of print (how do these things happen?) work in digital format. looking back through his stuff i see that he did a version of "everybody lies." so cool... the circle continues...

be like leo...
