Default Charter Membership benefits

I'm planning to give it until September and sign up for Charter Membership. Other than being able to have a avatar, it'd be nice to support the forums as well.

To present members, what do you like best about being a member? Will you continue once it wears out?

Previous members, what made you not continue the membership?

And then non members, what made you not become a member?

We'll be glad to have you. I think the best benefit is the increased number of PMs... and being able to sell/trade.

Thanks. This thread is for my sole purpose of deciding if I want to become a Charter Member, everyone! I hope these questions don't bother some of y'all.

Also I'm not interested in trade/selling area. However having a custom avatar, title, uploads of images, and of course to support AGF is pretty cool.

In addition to what Kerbie said, one’s PM box increases from 20 to 100, and you can upload photos directly.

More importantly, it’s the paid charter members (as little as $25/yr., which can be selected as recurring) and sponsors (as little as $99/yr.) who help keep the forum lights on. Great value for all the information and enjoyment the forum provides. Memberships also keep the advertising to an absolute minimum. To many, that’s a big deal which most here take for granted.

If anyone wants to join, you can easily do so here. Many thanks to those who already provide support, and to those who will.

I spend a lot of time here (rather too much, in my dear wife’s opinion )

$25 a year seems to me to be a very modest price to pay to help keep the lights on - I have it set up for auto-renewal, and have never thought twice about doing so.

And, of course, there are tangible benefits, as others have pointed out.

Things I like about Charter Membership:

1) Cheap way to support AGF

2) Use of Classifieds to sell stuff

3) Increased PM capacity

4) Ease of uploading images

I've been an AGF member for a while and besides my short stint as a Mod, I can't remember not being a Charter Member. It's just the right thing to do - to me it's kind of like buying a coffee, drink or something at Barnes & Noble and not just hogging a seat to use the WIFI or read magazines...

I don't have anything for sale (or to sell).

I haven't been here long enough to know anyone; maybe 3 PMs in the last year.

I don't need to upload images; not even my family appreciates me doing that.

I paid up because I derive value, mostly lurking and learning, and occasionally folks are kind enough to respond to my moronic noobie questions.

For me, I just think it's the right thing to do.

I agree. Not too many places around these days that are so popular with enthusiasts, provide a great service, staffed with helpful volunteers, and yet never ask for anything in return.

Except especially for everyone to follow rule #1 - Be nice, and respectful of each other.

Honestly I just did it so I could sell a guitar recently. The classifieds used to be free, then $5 and now the $25 charter membership. The extra PM space is nice and I’ve gotten a lot of good information here over the years so I guess that’s worth the $25.

Very simply, if you want AGF to be around in its present form five years from now, your charter subscription will make that a reality. Over the last few years, many specialty forums on the internet have gone dark, or become very heavily commercialized for this very reason- their support faltered.

AGF has remained a ‘nice’ place to visit. Over the last 13 years, I have rarely missed a day checking in. It is my go to place for guitar information. IMO, it deserves (and needs) my yearly support.

Best,

Rick

For me it's the ability to upload pics directly, instead of hassling with a pic-hosting company.

I have not used any other feature of charter membership.
