Congrats Wade, for a week or two I had an Eastman parlour with a very similar finish and I have to say that I liked it. The guitars sounded good too but I couldn't handle the skinny neck (1/8" thinner than advertised) so it had to go back.

It is unarguable that Eastman really do make very fine instruments.
If you must swap out the tuners , use the lower set as you said, and whilst I have no issues with endpins, I also like Schaller straplocks, but only use them at the neck heel, apart from on my Dobro.

Fine looking J45 style ...... but it is a jumbo!

I really enjoyed your review. I had the same experience as you when I tried mine out. Blew my socks off and I ended up taking it home. Couldn't believe the price and wondered if I just had cheap ears.

I haven't had a chance to play many j45 so it's interesting to hear your comparisons.

Congrats and welcome to the club!

Congrats, Wade. Eastman is indeed doing special things out there. So glad I learned about them in this forum, about five years.

I bought the guitar below clean, used for $850. It's a monster. This is the E-10SS -- adi over hog -- which is a semi-clone of the J-45.

Some of you have heard this clip, but it bears repeating:

Yeah, as someone who doesn't know that much about guitars and doesn't spend so much time comparing them, it's gratifying to see others confirm what my amateur ears perceive about the Eastman E1SS.

As soon as I started strumming, I said to myself, "It's shoulder's might be sloped, but this guitar is no slouch!"

And the Ping tuning machines are just fine. Their 18:1 I believe. But I can't blame anyone for babying such a great guitar.

I put LR Baggs Anthem SL's in both my Eastmans.

Salsarev: Does that one you sold to Wade come with electronics in it? I'm not a fan of factory electronics and always prefer to add my own.

Do they make the same or similar model with no rig in it?

Thanks,
Scott

P.S. The E-10SS is a monster.

It came with a Fishman Sonotone; entry level electronics. Yes, the E10ss is great guitar!

Hi Wade,

Wonderful information on your new Eastman slope shoulder guitar. I especially appreciate the information on the MusicNomad Acousti-Lok device. I just ordered one! I worry so much about the guitar strap coming off those threaded endpin jacks! Now I finally have a solution!

Enjoy that new guitar, Wade!

Love the look. Eastman solid tonewoods and high quality control is quite the business model. Love the fretboard and bridge look.

I still remember the archtop my friend lent me for 3 days. It was spectacular. AR605CE. Like this one:

Thanks for the part upgrades you are using. You have a fine sense of both utilitarian and harmony in presentation.

Would love to hear this in church. Enjoy!

Scott, I tested the Fishman Sonitone pickup last night through my Ultrasound amp, which is the truest and most sonically accurate amp for the purpose that I own. It’s about what you’d expect from a pickup and preamp combination designed to go into “value-priced guitars.” It has the dreaded “piezo quack,” and while it’s not terrible, it’s not great, either.

In addition to that, the low E and A strings are noticeably quieter than the rest of the strings. That could probably be remedied by sanding the base of the stock bone saddle, or replacing it, and the bottom of the saddle slot might need to be visited by a chisel to make sure it doesn’t have any burrs or high spots.

But given that I’m not wild about the tone of the pickup to begin with, at this point I’m not going to fool with it at all. I may yank it out entirely and replace it with a K&K Pure Mini bridgeplate pickup, but haven’t decided that yet, either.

It’s early days yet, as our cousins in the Mother Country would say.

mmmmm ... according to this diagram Wade has it right, it's a slope shouldered dreadnought - jumbo on the right.

Nice guitar Wade!
