Default Cleaning up the body, binding, a soundport and a touch of shellac

Use what you got! Closing the back!

Front and back before close trimming with a table router

All cleaned up

A binding channel cut.

The lower bout stripe going in.

It's coming along, John. I see great improvement over the first one.

Hey... did you eat your Wheaties today?

I felt the black was too much. So I sanded out most of the black

Putting a soundport

Keeping four micro thin layers of binding butted up against an oval was daunting

Finished!

Ok, I am still finding my centers and I made some copies of the thickness and shape of the neck at the 1st fret, 5th and 10th. I have a contour gauge to check against.

Jeff Beck Signature guitar lol

Getting there!

Neil, if you begin a thread, please send the link to Kurt and me so we can watch.

I'm curious how this sound hole will work out, John. I wish I was there to tap on the box a few times every now and then. It's a catchy design.

John's got it covered, Mary. We started work about a month ago but haven't really gotten very far. I'm being very careful but there have already been some mistakes. I'm hoping it turns out as nice as YJ's first.

As for the tap tone, the other night when I was there it kind of sounded like a snare drum because a brace up by the neck joint was loose. With hope he got it back in place.

It's an unusual shape. I'm curious to hear how it changes the sound.

It wasn't the brace! To get into the brace base I was blowing thinned glue down a 12" tube to get glue under the loose spot. Nope. So I tapped and tapped. It was the "waves" and thinned wood from my sound-hole creation. I put 2 strategically placed "biscuits" on the thin spots and the buzz be gone!
I worked on the headplate veneer a bit today. Came up with the headstock design (yep, pix are coming). The neck shape is coming along. I put in a "how to make a neck" DVD 2 times in the past 2 days. I keep falling asleep! lol
I'll get through it this weekend!

Today we did a Yard sale. Sales stunk, got some good kid time in. Then I locked me in the shop for some R&R. I drew, and drew and drew my location markers for frets, MT Block and neck shape. Then i got the guts up to cut the neck just proud of the MT mount. Sanding, filing and fitting took well over an hour. I have it mounting on a test neck block!!!!!!!! It is on the right angle! I am VVVVVVery excited.
Also I got more of the head plate done. I like the design I came up with. This darn thing is falling together. Cool!

Neil, you asked what my next build will be. My shop. For a few months I am going to make jigs to ease what I know how to do, lay out the floor plan better, better lighting, central vac. I have ideas!
