Emerald X7 NGD Review Link added.
I am contemplating dipping my toes back into the CF pond.
Due to old MX injuries, my neck and shoulder prefer 00 or 000 short scale 12 fret guitars. I can get by with small a bodied 25” scale 14 fret like my Martin D jr 10. Since I cannot sample any Emerald guitars, can anyone shed some light on the Emerald X7’s ergonomics? I Last edited by Godfather; 09-07-2021 at 05:08 PM. |

I don't think you can find a more ergonomic musical instrument. I've had the 7, 10, and 20 and Alistair has revolutionized the comfort level of guitar playing. He's also done a pretty good job of revolutionizing the looks and beauty of the guitar. And best of all, the sound is there in every one of his instruments.
Just saying................ Last edited by Guest 928; 07-10-2021 at 07:29 AM. |

My custom short scale (24.875”) X20 is super comfortable to play.

The smaller body and short scale of the X7 plus the body contours make it an extremely comfortable guitar to play. The RainSong Shorty with its short scale neck that connects at the 12th fret (making it a very short scale, hence the name Shorty) and shallow 4.1" body depth make it a very comfortable guitar to play as well if you're more into a traditional looking guitar. I've owned both and would give the X7 the edge in comfort due to the bevels but the RainSong the edge in overall tone.

I agree. I missed out on the X5, but my X7 is a mid-2017 which were smaller than the current models. It's wonderfully ergonomic... smooth edges and curves. I owned the X7 and a Cargo Raw and much prefer the X7. It's a more balanced guitar... quite a joy.

As the previous owner of an X20, X20-12, X30 and Amicus I'd agree completely with Evan...
I have an idea - never mind.....

The fact that they sound wonderful and play beautifully is, perhaps, primary - but the playing comfort is very sweet icing on the cake. Also - and I don’t think anyone has mentioned this yet - Emeralds tend to feel smaller than their physical dimensions would suggest. Just about everyone who’s played an X30 and commented here has mentioned it; the X20 follows suit in feeling much more OM-ish than dreadnaught. For the OP - you might find an X20 quite manageable, if you could manage to lay your hands on one. Anyone in Michigan who could help him out with a meet’n’play?

Thanks for all of the comments. I appreciate the input.
I hope to get my hands on an X7 and X20 for a test drive before deciding on which way to go.
