Default Zipflex gluing options

Does anyone have experience with gluing Zipflex with anything other than CA? Was thinking of using titebond or fish glue for my bindings including the Zipflex. Evey Zipflex instructional video or document I read states CA but would like to avoid the pucker factor of CA bleeding into my spruce top.

Thanks!
Mark

Seal the purfling channel with shellac before you install the zipflex.
It'll help keep the CA from bleeding into the spruce.

I have never used Zipflex, but I use Duco for abalone purflings.

1. Seal channel, top edge, side edge with 3 coats of 1# shellac to insure no wicking.
2. Install all binding and purfling dry and secure. Put waxed paper between strapping and binding.
3. Check that Zipflex is lower than finished top level by a few thousandths of an inch. The Zipflex surface is too thin to sand during leveling. You'll be scraping/sanding the CA surface not shell.
4. Wick in thin CA a couple inches of length, skip a couple inches, and continue two passes until all glued.

Disclosure: I'm an amateur hacker; not a luthier.

Photos show binding and purfling that is all wood, fiber, or Ziplex. Finish is French-polished shellac.

How would you keep it in position? I dry fit it to final location, check Zipflex depth and then glue. It eliminates the risk of movement during gluing.

If the Zipflex ends up too high the shell layer will get sanded off. You would then have to remove and replace the high section; not an easy fix.

That looks great Jon.

I've got a build coming up where the buyer wants more than my usual bling. Been looking at using Zipflex on it.

Default CA vs Titebond

Glued the binding in using CA as everyone suggested and it came out great! all that worrying for nothin!!

For what its worth one thing I did notice was the BWB purfling I used had a different shade of white depending on the glue I used. For the end graph I glued in using titebond but bindings were with CA. The white on the CA purfling seemed whiter that the purfling on the end graph. I guess that kinda makes sense.
