Wow. Just wow.
I'd heard her name as the writer of some songs I played when I was in a Country cover band some years back, but never heard her perform. Just today I happened across her name and decided to look her up on YouTube.

Thanks for posting.
Thoughtful lyrics, a great voice, and a couple of simple chords can make a very satisfying performance. Don

Great song, and I didn't realise she was the writer of this one. I prefer Trisha Yearwood's version of this song though.

I was familiar with Yearwood's version, and of course a full blown studio version is going to be more impressive, particularly with that killer fretless bass. But purely based on vocal performance, I prefer Peters' version

Not only is Gretchen Peters a fine singer/songwriter but her husband, keyboardist Barry Walsh, takes her performances to a whole new level. The mic she's using in the Music Fog videos is a Miktek CV4 set to figure 8 according to producer Aaron Lee. The great tone of this mic in the OP's video post and the one below convinced me to test drive a Miktek CV4. I did and subsequently bought one. That was four years ago and I've never regretted it.

More often than not I enjoy a stripped back version of a song compared to, as you said, a full blown studio version. Perhaps me being a solo singer and guitar player leans me towards that sound. The other aspect I didn't like/prefer was the tempo. This one was a fraction too slow. Still, it's all just opinions. That happens!!

The first time I heard Gretchen she was in the round at Eddie's Attic in Decatur, GA with Janis Ian, Craig Carothers and Tony Arata, all four of them were amazing, but Gretchen had just written "Five Minutes" and that song absolutely knocked my socks off. Since then I've heard her with Barry about four or five times and I've anxiously awaited and devoured each new album as she releases them. I went to Nashville (well Franklin actually) for her latest CD release concert this summer and she'll be in Colorado next week. I think she is writing some of the most powerful songs of anyone out there now. If you've got some time, just find her on YouTube and listen or go to her website, www.gretchenpeters.com.
Her latest album, Dancing With the Beast is one of those albums where you keep hitting replay song after song. When I finally got to the last song I immediately went to my music room and learned it that night. This is a simple video of her singing "Love That Makes A Cup of Tea" unmiked and unplugged as an encore at a show this summer. Last edited by Kerbie; 10-31-2018 at 11:35 PM. Reason: Fixed video |

What a great performance! And I love the piano accompaniment. As Trevor noted, the keyboard accompaniment adds a whole new level!
And I must say, I love her voice through that Miktek C4 microphone, too! All around, a real pleasure to listen to! And a sweet song, as well! - Glenn
