What song is this?
A long time ago I used to play a song I think was called "I'm Going Back to Where I Come From", about a young man going to the city to find romance and being fleeced by a woman. I am now looking for the lyrics and can't find them anywhere. Does anyone know this song and what is it called? I remember the melody but little else.
Incomplete lyrics which I remember in bits: I'm going back to where I come from where the mockingbird is singing in the lilac bush I used to think my life was humdrum....(forgot what follows) I took my hat and 14 dollars and went to all the trouble of a life that always follows When you're rich and hunting romance and the mockingbird is singing in the lilac bush Thanks for any help you can give me. |

Wow! That was quick!
Thanks so much for the replies. I didn't think it was such an old song. I learned it in the early 60's. I appreciate it and will now reacquaint myself with the lyrics!
