Default Fingerstyle Banjo Rolls

Ok, so I've been doing some work on 'If I Were A Carpenter' and I've got a nice finger style arpeggio pimiaimi that's working nicely.

Then I run across the Robert Plant version where there is a cross-picked banjo roll type of pattern. I can do this finger style as pimpimpm per bar, on the top 3 strings, but it is wicked hard because it feels like it would fit better in a 3-beat time signature. I can do it but it does not feel nearly as intuitive to me as the pimiaimi pattern.

I'm wondering if there is some way to visualize this better to make it easier to play?

Steve

I tend to count this with the following emphasis,
Code:
!	!
1 2 3 1 2 3 1 2
Like two slow beats. Hope this helps.

That's what I've been trying to do, but it's not easy. Probably, it will get easier with practice. I remember a time when I didn't think I'd ever be able to do a finger style song.
