Default All around external acoustic mike

i am trying to record
A. From my acoustmAss fender through a sure m57 through my Scarlett to garage band or
B. Directly from my guitar to Scarlett to GarageBand

My question is what's a very common acoustic mike to use to pickup my acoustic guitar?? Below $200.00 to play both a and b.

Am not sure why you want to do the first but there you go.

There are lots of options out there. Big names can often be fund discounted. I would go for a small condenser but many larger ones can work well and also double for a vocal mic.

Have a look at Rode, SE and so on.

If $200 is your limit look near the top end of it.

For your budget you may want to get something used. You could consider the ADK A6, which is a medium diameter condenser, and the Oktava MK-012, which is a small diameter condenser. Less common but you could also look for a used 3 Zigma CHI with a sdc capsule for your acoustic and later add a ldc capsule for micing your amp. I've sent you a PM.

Aloha Mennace,

You should probably audition many mic's before buying. Even though your budget is limited, it would be useful to listen to mic's that are more expensive too so you can understand the differences & build qualities.

If you're a singer, you definitely need to audition first because vocal mic's are so voice specific. One "common" mic will not work with every voice. So audition first, & let your voice make the decision.

Mic Recommendations - Look for USED mic's online as well.

ADK A6
Oktava MK-012
AKG C535 (used) - great mic on vocals or guitar, live or studio
MXL SP-1 - Under $100
Audio-Technica 2020 - Under $100

Best of Luck Mennace!
