Default JBL EON Compact Unboxing/Initial Review

My receipt shows JBL. Not sure what the deal is. I would recommend folks buy from the usual sources. I have no idea if they are authorized.

Mods: you might consider editing out references to aforementioned company since they appear to not be authorized dealers. I’m sure we have some authorized dealers that are sponsors on AGF.

That was AGF hall of fame worthy!!!

I’ll be happy to lend it to you when it arrives. You’ll just need to pay the $0.75 postage to France.

Very interesting. I'm going to try and work with the JBL today. Holding off on the Kemper editor until after. I backed off the band and don't have a full band gig on the calendar until April. That will be VERY weird for me...

TIP: An unfolded paperclip is perfect for depressing the tiny ON/OFF button.

If you fold the paperclip back up, you can hang one on your earlobe, or one on each ear for stereo.

Just to say I am in love with that speaker

It does not get loud, but it is the first time I can get vocals + guitar + drum/percussion works on a single speaker without all getting muddy or conflicting.

the EQ is so power full!!
* I have to EQ drastically (huge 200-500 Hz cuts) to have a nice dry guitar tone (My pickup is a SBT). But with the recent modification of my guitar internal preamp impedance down to 1Mohm it is much easier because I don't have to cut the low end.

* I boost the bass on the drum/percussions

* I cut the low end on the mic and boost the treble for extra presence. Cut the 2KHz crossover boxiness.

* Touch of reverb

and it works!!!

If you need more power, just buy a QSC CP8 and use the through ouput

For those who had experience with the JBL EON Compact and AER Compact 60, which one is louder and has better dispersion?

It has been years I had the AER compact 60. They are truly apple and oranges.

AER is 100% voiced for guitar and sounds super boxy for vocals. AER is focused on the midrange so it can be quiet loud.

I would not really compare them.

For me AER is great if you are a guitar player only, and you are not looking for a warm, full tone. If you want warm, full tone go: schertler/acus. If you are a fingerstyle 000/om kind of guy and want clarity (AER can be even glassy clear), you can give the AER a try. Note that AER also work with jazzy tone because of the absence of tweeter that can give a boxy character that works well for jazz.

Just to be clear, given the wide range of units discussed in the thread, are you stating this about the JBL Compact such that you're added to the "pro" side?

I was talking about the JBL eon one compact. I am already on the PRO side.

I am happy because it does what I needed.

The Laney AH4x4 core sound is better (but has no bass). The JBL is not way louder by the way.

The extended bass and the powerful EQ enable to handle a Boss DR-01s percussion/drum tone and mix it with my vocal and guitar tone with no conflict.

As Aaron demonstrated it is especially usefull with a SBT pickup. I guess if I was using an UST pickup, there would be less problem.

Also I have EMI problems in my house, with a 8kHz ringing appearing from time to time. It is horrible with an analog speaker (Jam) plugged into the AC wall socket. The JBL grabs a faint 8 kHz signal but still very audible... I notched it on the master EQ in a minute. This is exactly what I wanted.

I did a quick comparison of mic volume today before sending off my S1 units to Bose for the battery drain fix (finally!).

Indeed, I was able to get the JBL louder than the S1 with a Shure SM58. Neither speaker seems very loud at home, but the S1 is fantastic at live gigs, perhaps due to the nature of their mini line arrays. I'll have to see if the JBL is as good while the S1s are away.
