Why are you always drinking when you read an unexpected funny statement?

I'm a bottom to top guy (6-->1)

I still do it this way (probably just out of habit) even with a headstock tuner.

Since I play for my own enjoyment, before the days of electronic tuners I would fret the 6th string at the fifth fret tune the 5th string to it, do the other strings in a similar fashion, and have it "relatively" in tune with itself. As long it sounded O.K. I didn't worry about the actual pitch of the notes. Now with the advent of cheap electronic tuners I tune the strings with the device and then make small adjustments by ear.

Way back, forty-two years ago, when I was studying classical guitar, my teacher pointed out that the sixth string is hard to tune and can easily be affected by tension changes in the others, so he tuned from the fifth string A to the first string E and then dropped down to the low E to tune. That habit has hung in through those years for some reason.

Pretty similar for me. Thinking about balance but it probably has a lot more to do with being the sort of guy that progressively removes eggs from the carton from diagonally opposite ends so go figure .

Amen! Don't know why I do it, but that's how I do it. Same with changing strings. Never occurred to me you could start with high E.

Ok, I think being quarantined has finally gotten the best of us. What’s next? Is denim ok to wear when playing my nitro finish guitar, or will the dyes in the denim hurt the finish? 😂😂😂

I'm still trying to figure out why the string closest to me is "6" while the one furthest away is "1."

Amazes me that this is even a potential topic for an internet kerfuffle. Anyone who knows anything at all about the historical evolution of stringed instruments knows that the string (or course if applicable) farthest from your face is number one and called "top." There's no debate. This was settled 400, 500 or more years ago. (Also, our beloved geetar of course didn't always have six strings.)

That's exactly opposite for changing strings.

I always start at string #1 (high E)

I find thinner strings harder to change, so that's why I start there.

After a few beers during string changes, at least I'm on the easy thicker strings.
