Default NGD: Emerald X30 Woodie

Arthur C. Clarke once said that any technology that is sufficiently advanced is indistinguishable from magic. The Emerald X30 is by definition magic. It is better in tone and volume than an artificial material instrument could possibly be. I compared it to my wood instruments, some of which cost ten times as much and it held its own. Resonant, sparkling trebles. Easy playability. The only quibble I have is the the low E is a bit boomy. I am going to try a 56 gage string on it to see if that helps. The overall presentation however is very, very impressive. The fan fret neck is expertly crafted. I specified a scale difference of about 0.8 inches, the same as my wood fan frets (McConnell and Halland). Knowing that the instrument itself is bullet proof makes it a care free playing experience. I did not care much for the X20. The X30 has made a carbon fiber believer out of me. I'm not selling my wood guitars but will definitely reach for the X30 frequently if only to confirm my belief in magic. Well done Emerald!

Lovely! Enjoy! Love how they matched the light color on the body with the light color on the headstock.

This is true for me also and definitely not what I expected. I play with the instrument on my left thigh with a guitar support. I was worried that the 17 inch lower bout would push the neck too far to the left and make the lower neck positions a painful reach (I have severe arthritis). The 12 fret to the body design compensated for this and it is a breeze to play. The bevels on the body let it tuck in close which also makes it very joint friendly. This was definitely a surprise.

Congrats on the new X30. She's certainly a beaut. I've noticed that the low E on my X20 also seems a bit boomy - maybe it's an Emerald trait. Good playing...
