Default went to a real nice guitar store today...

Just across the Georgia line from me is a small shop that
has new Martins and some others and a large selection of
nice vintage mostly Martins and Gibsons.

It is the kind of shop where people come in with their own
guitars and pick some and hang out and talk, people there
knew each other. The folks that came in all invited me play
their nice guitars ...

I called first since I had to drive an hour to get there, so
I knew the manager's name when I got there. We shook
hands and I told him I was interested in a Southern
Jumbo he had and I sat down and started playing it
while he went off to attend to some other folks that were
there. It was a nice guitar, but it didn't make my socks
roll up and down like my cf-100 does... of course I
didn't know what to think of the cf-100 the instant I
first picked it up either...

Another fellow came in. He had a Washburn branded guitar
that was made in the mid 90's by Bourgeois! They had some
kind of deal where Bourgeois was going to make some high
end Washburns that didn't end up working out, but some of the
initial models were made and this fellow had one. It was a most
awesome playing and sounding guitar, made me really interested
in Bourgeois. This particular guitar had a lot of bling including
an intricate kind of ivy scroll work all up the neck.

Another fellow had a 71 or so d-35, he let me play that... another
great playing and sounding guitar!

The manager had an older d-18, and he let me play it, again,
awesome.

I played some of the new Martins and a used (not vintage) d-25,
they were good guitars but they won't keep me awake at night
thinking about them.

The fellow with the washburn has a couple of gibsons he's
interested in selling... he was telling me
about them. One is a 57 country western. He only lives a few miles
away, and he went home and got it. I played it some and dang if
it wasn't great sounding and easy to play right off the bat.

When I get my Ken Stika dreadnought back after the luthier reglues
whatever is loose in it, I'm going to take it back over there
and play it back to back with some of the other guitars and
see if it has been brought back to life, I compared it to some
Guitar Center J-45s the other week and it sounded kind of dull
compared to them. I think it is funny that all the folks I met at
the shop today know and think highly of the luthier I go to
in South Carolina, in fact, he does all the Martin work for
the shop...

Several of the fellows had those nice capos I learned about on
this site on their guitars, they seem to just push them back
past the nut when they're not using them. There was one
on the store manager's nice Martin he let me play with his
Blue Chip pick, something I also learned about here...

A good day

-Mike "I kind of hope he doesn't sell that country western soon! "

I'm so glad I don't live in Georgia right now. They've got a 1954 00-18 for sale. My birth year.

While I was there they were talking about it and
the washburn fellow played it a while and liked it
a lot.

The washburn fellow sent me some pics... I think he's talked about it before
on this forum... there's definitely some discussion of bourgeois/washburn
on here, I just searched for "D96SW" (that's what his model is) and got
some hits...
