Default Any 12 string Martin Retro Monels users here?

My Martin Jumbo 12 string is in need of new strings and I'm mildly intrigued by these Monels. What's you impression, if you have used, or are using them? Thanks

I'd love to give them a try but my current 12-string guitars are rosewood and maple and I wasn't impressed with monels on my 6-string rosewood and maple guitars enough to want to try them on my 12's.

Now if I had a mahogany 12-string guitar that would be another story - love monels on hog!

I use them on my D12-28 and my D12-35 50th Anniversary. I really like them but I like Retros on my 6-string guitars as well.

If you're looking for a "purer" 12-string tone - piano-like octaves minus the hard metallic edge of PB/80-20 - and need something with more grunt/growl than silk-&-steel Monels are the way to go, especially if you've got a mahogany/spruce or all-hog guitar; should also be a good bet with koa based on what I've heard on 6-string instruments, and they gave my Rainsong JM3000 jumbo 12 a smooth "woody" quality that belies its CF construction...

I use D'addario ej37s on my D12-20.

It sounds great with them, and they last well, so I doubt I'll be experimenting any time soon. These are over three months old.

What tonal difference do youse guys perceive ?

Ackchu arilly, I can't find any Martin monel 12 string sets apart from reaaally thin sets 10-47, no good for me.

I was kind of surprised to hear what sounded like great tone coming from a D28 with Monels on a youtube video, I've liked them on my mahogany guitars. I think I am going to buy a set and give them a go on my rosewood jumbo 12, I'm due for my yearly change

I ordered a set for my LL-16-12 Yamaha.
Will get them on Monday
It will be a few weeks before I use them though.
My Yamaha is an all solid wood rosewood b & s.

I have tried Retro strings on my Guild D-55 and my Martin D-35.
Both with rosewood b & s.

I liked them more on the Martin.
It will be interesting to see how they sound on the 12 string.

Never gave the monels a thought. The Daddardio's I have on my 12 string sound like a 12 string should in my mind. Though sometimes it gets a little crowded in there.😁

They( monel's) have turned my run of the mill mahogany dread into a very unique sounding instrument and i love the wide pallet of subtle tones available with just the smallest change of attack, position, type of pick etc.all thanks to someone on this site recommending them.

I have them on my Guild all hog 12string.
I’ll not be using PB’s or 80/20 anymore.

I liked them when I first put them on my Taylor 12. With time (A few months) they felt increasingly stiff to me. I had the same experience with nickel bronze. It very well may be that I am alone in this perception, but that has been my experience.

I like them on my all mahogany guild 12 string. I was looking for a somewhat subdued, better blended 12 string tone
