I think many of us have our own ideas of what we like and don't like in a guitar, or anything else for that matter. For me, pick guards look dumb and I choose guitars that don't have them. However, I realize that many people need them, and also many actually like them. That is just the way it is - we all like and dislike one thing or another. No big deal.

Let your hands and ears do the thinking. Anything more than that then you're over thinking it.

I agree that dreads with cutaways are the single most ugly design of guitar.. but if you really want one Gibson do a few models, J45, Songwriter and Hummingbird Studio, some rosewood options with 1.75 nut. Just wear a blindfold when playing and you will be fine.

My first guitar purchase in 1995 was a Guild Dreadnaught cutaway. I soon figured I didn’t like the look of the cutaway unless it was on a smaller, tighter waisted guitar. Then I learned to prefer Dreadnaughts. I since learned to access high notes without needing a cutaway. Now I think I just prefer all guitars to not have a cutaway. Saves money too.

Yeah, but you would never call Jerry handsome. Still an ugly guitar.

I wouldn't use the word "stupid", but I don't like the looks of cutaways on any acoustic guitars (except Selmer Maccaferris, which look odd without them), but I don't spend a lot of time above the 14th fret on acoustic. They would come in handy for slide playing.
One thing that I do find very strange is a player who does a whole show without going above the 5th or 6th fret and yet plays an acoustic with a cutaway. Why have it if you're not using it?

Generally speaking I think cutaways look stupid on any acoustic guitar. Especially dreads. But it did not stop me from buying one when I needed access to some upper frets for ONE SONG that we did for a very short time. I still have the guitar. I almost never venture past the fifth fret.

To some people these guitars look kinda odd with a cutaway. Did they make any guitars without a cutaway?

Guitar George, They do exist, but are not common, like this 7-string Selmer:
Or this nylon string Selmer:

This has been stated before but I like the way a cutaway looks on just about any size acoustic guitar except a dreadnought.
