In some ways, your post could be asking the question, "How difficult is it to transition from Garage Band to a professional level DAW?"

I have no experience with Logic, but I made the leap from GB to Reaper and found the learning curve very steep. I spent several hours on forums and tutorials to get familiar with Reaper. I suspect I use a fraction of its ability, but most of my work is acoustic and vocal. (I think I used 16 tracks for one song, but most songs are a handful of tracks.)

Once I got over the steep curve, I MUCH preferred Reaper over GB. It just made more sense and could do so much more.

I agree with Aloha Chris - GB is fine, adequate. But I think putting in several hours of learning is very much worth the leap to a professional DAW. Logic, PT, Reaper, whichever you choose for you

I bought Logic Pro 9 like two weeks before 10 came out (d'oh) and was intimidated enough to not use it until this weekend. It is more complex than GB, but it can also do a lot more. I am still a rank novice, but just posted my first song mixed and mastered in Logic. Lots to learn still.

Here's a tip: Take an existing GB recording that you're very familiar with, open it in Logic, and start messing around. (There are tons of tutorials on Youtube, not to mention all the Apple and fan-based message boards.) It's a lot easier to learn the basics this way than recording cold-turkey.

I get a little better everyday with Logic 10. No regrets in purchasing it. Lots of tutorials out there too.
